Patoka Oil Field Worker Killed In Head-On Crash
A head-on collision near the Patoka viaduct on route 51 killed 26 year old Wayne Williams and seriously injured three other oilfield workers. The injured were taken to St Marys Hospital in Centralia. Names include Henry Broers 23, Max Stags 21, and George Spitz 16.

A bold 6 o'clock robbery hit Martin's Cash Store in Patoka with more than 100 dollars in merchandise and cash taken. Thieves pried the front door, leaving a light burning, while bystanders saw two suspects depart in a car. Authorities, including Sheriff Bryan Pitts, pursued leads as Beery and Eagan market also suffered attempted entry.
