Patoka Happenings and Events Update

Mr. and Mrs. Verne Nattier visited relatives in Centralia Monday night. Rev and Mrs. S. M. Foulon of Marion were guests of Mr and Mrs. P. J. Mojonnier Sunday. Mr and Mrs. Kermit Tillman of St. Louis spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Ed Foster and Edna. The Band Boosters will meet Thursday Dec 15 at 7 30 PM at the high school for a Christmas party with a musical program and candy.

Warriors Extend Skain with Breese Victory on Home Court

Patoka’s Warriors captured their sixth straight win by defeating Breese 58 to 46 on their gym floor. Jerry Crabb led scoring with 16 points, David Sanders added 14, and Dick Adams and Dale Rutledge ten each, as the team led every quarter and finally widened the gap in the final period.

Witnesses From Patoka Attend Alton Christian Assembly

A group from Patoka joined local residents for the Jehovah's Witnesses Illinois circuit no. 6 semi annual assembly in Alton December 2 to 4. The event at the Alton YWCA featured immersion baptism, a cafeteria, and a public lecture by R L Anderson of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society on Overcoming the Fears of This Generation.

Fancy Work Club Christmas Party Highlights Local Fun

The Ladies Fancy Work Club held its Christmas party on Friday December 2 at Mrs. Roy Jones home. Entertainment was by Mrs. Clark Walraven and Mrs. Elsie Gray. Prize winners were Mesdames Homer Potts L P Busch and G W Isaac. Hostess gifts and mystery pals revealed accompanied trays with a miniature Santa. Guests included Mrs. Maude Nall and Martha Isaac. Mrs. Busch to host January 6.

Sunbeams Meet Here at Baptist Church

The Pre-School Sunbeams gathered at the Baptist church Saturday afternoon December 8. Connie Walker welcomed Rebecca Talbott as a new member. After roll call lesson and games, Mrs. P. J. Mojonnier served refreshments. The next meeting will be December 17 with a Christmas party hosted by Emil Nattlep.

Married at Mt. Vernon prater couple wed in private ceremony

Dee and Norma Prater were married on November 26 at Mt. Vernon with John Wirtt and Wesley Ferogin as witnesses. The couple, daughter of Herbert Garman of Hartshorn and son of Moses A. Prater of Round Spring, plan to reside in the local community.

Hand Canceling and Christmas Mail Tips Issued

The Mail Bag from Postmaster Barnes urges the public to use the new hand operated cancelling machine and to label bundles of Christmas cards. Mail should be sent early and not after 4 p m. Boxes in the post office lobby will hold local and out of town cards, with slips available to label bundles.

Fire Department to Sponsor Santa Claus Visit in Patoka

The Patoka Volunteer Fire Department will sponsor Santa Claus on Saturday December 24 around 2 30 PM. The annual event draws a large crowd around the Christmas tree on the lot between Martins store and Schroeder s garage. Donations are welcomed to support the community celebration for the children.

Christmas Theme at W S C S Meeting

The Woman's Society of Christian Service met in the church for a Christmas themed gathering. Mrs. Emily Ballance spoke on The First Christmas, with readings from St Luke, poems by Rita Hill and Carrye Alexander, and a Christmas song medley by Mrs. John Layton. Gifts were exchanged at the post meeting party with hostesses Ethel Klinge and others.

Proceeds from the annual Thanksgiving day dinner held in the grade school gym totaled $332.26, according to figures released here this week. Those who still have dishes out can get them at the library building.
