Patoka Household Science Club Plans Christmas Welfare Boxes

The Patoka Household Science Club met at the gymnasium for an all day session to prepare Christmas welfare boxes. Pot luck dinner at noon and a January program with art exhibit and guest speaker were announced, with Georgia Cruse as chair and Ruth Carter among new appointees.

Thieves broke the glass front door of the Jones and Martin store Saturday night or Sunday and stole candy cigars cigarettes tobacco overalls shoes and other goods. The total value is not yet known but appears considerable.

Flora Tigers Defeated By Patoka in Tight 26 25 Game

Flora Tigers lost a close home basketball contest to Patoka by 26 to 25. Patoka players, led by H. Simcox high point man, delivered a strong team effort while Flora fielded twelve players and fought hard throughout the hard fought game. The local club anticipated a return match next Tuesday.

Patro men Arrest Rum Runner Near Patoka

A man calling himself Samuel H Rubin and a woman were arrested south of Patoka after a near collision with police. In a hidden apartment 480 pints of liquor were found. Rubin, a reported rum runner between New Orleans and Chicago, was jailed awaiting a hearing before Judge Finn.

Obituary of Nellie Francis Passes at 17 in Crystal Lake

Nellie Francis died December 4 1930 at Sherman Hospital Elgin NL at age 17 after a brief illness. Born near Patoka she lived four years in Crystal Lake Illinois with her parents Nathaner and wife and was a bright active student beloved by family friends and Sunday School. Funeral service 2:00 p.m. at M E Church South Puteka conducted by Rev J M Smith and Rev R E Willis with many relatives and friends attending. interment followed.

Fire Destroys W E Harper Residence in Kinmundy Area

The home of W. E. Harper formerly of Patoka and now near Kinmundy was totally destroyed by fire last Wednesday evening while the family was away in Kinmundy. Neighbors found the blaze too late to save valuables.
