Widow of Noted Colorado Educator Dies in Nebraska Hospital

Mary Hall Morgan of Montrose Colorado died June 19 in Lincoln Nebraska hospital aged 71 following a week of critical illness after witnessing her niece’s wedding. She and husband John B Morgan had long shaped Colorado education including Japan postings and Montrose county high school.

Vernon Store Changes Hands in Local Transaction

The store owned by Mr. and Mrs. Fred Brown was sold last week to Mr. and Mrs. Clem V. Doolen. The Browns will move from Patoka while the Doolens assume duties on August 1. Myron Cooley is hired as the new clerk.

S. D. Marine Buys New Dream Home

Harold R. Belcher, son of Alvin Belcher of Patoka, now in the U. S. Marine Corps at Pacific Beach California, purchased the Harrell Dream Home at 2610 Frankfort St Bay Park Village. The home offers views of Mission Bay to the west and Tecolote Valley to the east and was built by J. H. Harrell, contractor in this city.

Auto accident near Shobonier injures Garrard family

Mr and Mrs Irvin Garrard and their son Danny visited Robinson and returned home Friday evening when their car skidded on a slippery road near Shobonier by the sawmill and overturned. They escaped serious injury but suffered considerable bruises. The car received major damage to fenders, top and one headlight.

Stork Shower for Mrs. Orville Mason Held in Sandoval

A stork shower was held for Mrs. Orville Mason at the home of Mrs. Jake Joyce in Sandoval on Wednesday afternoon. Guests enjoyed games and contests and refreshments were served by the hostess. Attending from Patoka were Mesdames Billy Bonner, Carl Rogier, Dean Martin and Dale Nattier.

The Christian Church lists Sunday School at 9 30 a m and Communion at 10 30 a m on Sundays. An August 8 Bible Study and Prayer Service at 8 00 p m invites all to attend. The note urges loyalty and faith to honor God during summer and to come to Sunday School next Sunday.

Fire Destroys Barn On Wernsman Farm

Lightning struck James Wernsman's new barn on Friday July 28, 1939 at 1 30 p m causing the 30 by 40 foot structure built in October 1936 to burn to the ground. The blaze consumed 400 bushels of corn along with oats 10 tons of soy bean and timothy hay. The barn valued at 1450 dollars when completed also damaged the north side of the nearby machine shed.
