Demolition Begins on Pasadena Block for Pacific Telephone HQ
The start of a 12 story Pacific Telephone headquarters demolition began Monday afternoon with Hewes 4 Bell and Mayor Walter Benedict leading the ceremonial breach of the Mather Building at Conrado Boulevard and Marengo Avenue. City officials including John Phillips Wendell Thompson Don Pollard and Elmer Wallace assisted as work proceeds this month on eight structures bounded by Colorado Boulevard Arroyo Parkway Union Street and Marengo Avenue. Construction of the $20 million building is slated to begin to September 15 with completion planned for fall 1973.

Arcadia Girl Drowns After Cabin Cruiser Accident
A four-year-old Arcadia girl, Jennifer Beyer, drowned when a 40 foot cabin cruiser capsized in heavy swells near a small boat harbor off the Southern California coast Sunday. Beyer, grandfather Donald Beyer, a New York Life executive, was hospitalized in serious condition. Also aboard were Beyer’s son D. Rob Beyer and other passengers.
