Restoring Brown Headstone Begins in National Forest

Work is underway in Angeles National Forest to restore Owen Brown's grave marker after vandals toppled it from a ridge above Meadows into Los Prilos Canyon. Oak Grove Forest Service crew will recover the stone, transport it up the hillside, and reset it. Owen Brown, son of Civil War figure John Brown, once lived with Jason Brown near Altadena.

Dr. Chester Hyman Dies at 52. Rites Thursday

Funeral services for Dr. Chester Hyman USC School of Medicine faculty member since 1946 will be held Thursday. He died Sunday at his home in South Pasadena from an apparent heart attack at age 52, with services at Mount Sinai Memorial Park in Los Angeles. He was Bireley Professor of Investigative Dermatology and held joint appointments as professor of medicine and physiology.

Bandits Take Over $1,000 at Pasadena Gas Station

Two neatly dressed men robbed Jones & Co (10245 Fair Oaks Ave) in Pasadena at 2:56 a.m. They produced a blue steel pistol and demanded jewelry and cash. Police noted the getaway method was not immediately known. One suspect was about 23, six feet one inch. the other about 45, five nine.

Prominent Architect Robert Ainsworth Dies at 85

Funeral services for Robert Ainsworth prominent Pasadena architect who designed homes, public buildings and malls including the Sierra Madre library will be held at 10 30 am Wednesday at the Ves and Warren Chapel Pasadena. Born in Wisconsin he moved to Pasadena in 1920 opening his own office in 1930 and later worked with noted local designers. He lived in Sierra Madre and was active in the University Club Rotary Pasadena Tournament of Bases Association and Chamber of Commerce. He is survived by his widow two daughters six grandchildren.
