Sierra Madre Historical Society will run a two segment three hour bus tour recalling the 1864 to 1900 era. Tours depart from Sierra Madre Community Recreation Center at Sierra Vista Park with an onboard navigator guiding viewers through pioneer settlements pack train stations and notable landmarks. Altadena Neighbors offer free admission to a feature length movie Nothing But a Man at Altadena Community Church at 7 30 pm Thursday. Ivan Dixon plays a young Black man who marches a teacher in Alabama and refuses to portray a “good Negro.” Abbie Lincoln and Gloria Foster also appear.

Nomination blanks are in City Hall with William H Boone and must be returned there. A first judging meeting is set for 3 30 p m Monday April 27 in City Hall. The Raymond Pitts school oriented and Star News community awards will be presented at the June 11 meeting in City Hall council chamber.

Henry J. Brooks aged 96, among the first Social Security beneficiaries, died from burns after ashes from his pipe ignited his clothing. He lived at 66 NW Syan ylope Drive Pasadena and had taken Social Security since its beginning in January 1941. Brooks was active, drove daily to socialize at a Pasadena park, and funeral services set for Wednesday at Lambs Funeral Home. Swopuhenon fled with 121 in receipts after a closing hour bar robbery at Gay Sis Bar Covina early Monday.
