Man Italo Jonasson forecasts higher returns for Manitoba fishers
Mr Jonasson argues fishing will shrink in fishermen numbers while overall income rises. He credits new north road access for cheaper transport and expanded markets in Europe, with France Denmark and the Netherlands showing growing interest. He notes Keystone exports total about 750 thousand dollars and two and a half million pounds shipped to date, mostly jackfish and whitefish, and urges policy like lake leasing to bolster the industry.
