The Saturday walk attracted 145 participants starting at 9 a.m. Some dropped out after several miles but organizers were pleased with the turnout. Chief Gordon Lathlin led in funds, raising $1,068 by walking 20 miles and earning the trophy for most money collected. Albert Ballantyne also completed the 20 miles.
The event started with a male winner Mr Ballantyne who finished first in the male division. Ella Constant won the female division with a 6 hour 20 mile walk. Youngest walker trophy went to Kelly Ballantyne aged 7 and oldest to David Lathlin aged 68 who completed the course from the Reserve soccer field to Prospector and back. Dwayne Armstrong and Perry Bescar, aged 7 and 8, completed the walk in four hours. Money raised funds recreational equipment for the Reserve and future field trips.
The remaining money from a bingo event is split into eight games of fifty dollars each with equal shares for multiple winners. All proceeds go to Minor Hockey in The Pas. Chief Gordon Lathlin and others joined a Walk-a-thon raising pledges per mile totals of fifty three, twelve, and eight dollars respectively. Mail social news to Reg at Box 1738 The Pas.
