Warehouse Fire Destroys Tires at White's Esso Building

A warehouse fire at White's Esso on Third Street destroyed about 322 000 dollars in tires and 2000 dollars in baler twine. Fire started in the rear at 2 30 a m and flames reached 40 feet high. Fire Chief Dick Wright said temperatures peaked near 3000 degrees and that deluge gun teams knocked the blaze down within 15 minutes enabling attic access and saving the front office section.

DQ Officially Opens at Mall This Weekend

The Dairy Queen at the mall will hold its official opening June 17 and 18 after renovations. The store has been open for months but delays let the formal event occur this weekend with a Father’s Day tie in. Local owners Ken and Noreen Ford invite the public to attend and meet staff.

Minor Hockey Cash Bingo At Starlite Drive In

A cash bingo event at Starlite Drive In tomorrow night June 15 starts 8:15 PM. Admission is 3 dollars to watch a regular movie after bingo titled Cheyenne Social Club. Prize money is 700 dollars.

Donation aids new indoor pool in The Pas

A $1000 cheque was presented to Mayor Jack Kennedy by Ross Hood of Und erwood McLellan & Associates for the indoor swimming pool opening in September. Hood said the gift honors sixty years of client relations with The Pas and aims to provide a satisfactory recreation facility for the local community. Mayor Kennedy thanked Hood and the firm for their thoughtful contribution benefiting The Pas residents.

Census Underway By The Pas Kinette Club

The Kinette Club of The Pas conducts a town census to prepare a new voters list this summer. canvassing Kinette cards left on doors include caller’s name address and phone. Residents are urged to contact the Kinette to ensure their name is added to this year’s voters list.

Walk-a-thon Draws 145 Participants

Albert Ballan Tyne won the 20 mile Walk-a-thon last Saturday in 2 hours 50 minutes. Dwayne Armstrong and Perry Bescar, aged 7 and 8, finished in 4 hours. Ballantyne, who runs 10 miles nightly in 50 minutes, claimed he is not in shape.

Pas Band Agrees Access to Industrial Park Road Rail

The Pas Indian Band agrees to grant 350 feet of land along the town boundary on Indian land to reach a proposed industrial park east of Connaught Avenue. In exchange the town would transfer ownership of the access land and acquire streets and lanes in Block 21A. A formal agreement is being prepared and gravel for the access road may be bought from the Band at a reasonable price after extensive council discussion.

5.8 Percent Raise For Teachers

On June 2 the Kelsey Division Manitoba Teachers Society met at Norlite Hall. Retiring teachers Miss Faith Hill and Mrs Gwladys Carley were honoured with gifts from the association and roses from the School Board. The meeting's business included a vote to extend the raise.

Jubilee Celebrations Begin August Long Weekend in The Pas

The Diamond Jubilee festivities in The Pas run August 5 to 13 starting with a beer garden and aligning with The Pas Exhibition Society Rodeo on August 6 and 7. Highlights include a mammoth parade, Old Timers Day banquet for residents 60 plus, and a family picnic at Clearwater Lake with a bathtub race. Mayor Kennedy invites Premier Schreyer to attend.

Pool canvass underway to raise funds for indoor pool

A final canvass of the business section begins this week to collect funds for the indoor pool set to open in September. Town Council member Doug McBride reports the Kelsey Recreation Commission will visit businesses that did not donate and contact 35 pledgers of $1,000 each for use only if necessary.

Kelsey Elementary to Open Second School Addition

Kelsey School Division No 45 completes the second of five building programs. The new addition to Kelsey Elementary School opens Wednesday evening June 21 at 8 00 pm in the auditorium with local and outside dignitaries expected.

37 POUND LAKE TROUT TAKEN FROM CLEARWATER LAKE

One of the first big Lake Trout netted since ice-out this spring was caught by an out of town angler Gay Gaertner of Tisdale.
