Dairy Queen Opens in Shopping Plaza With Mayors Ribbon

The Dairy Queen Brazier in the shopping plaza officially opened on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. Mayor Jack Kennedy cut the ribbon, with greetings from Chamber of Commerce chair Jim Doucette. Owner Ken Ford and his wife Noreen expressed plans to settle in The Pas.

Fourth Priority Storm Sewers For The Pas Sub-Division

The Pas sub division storm sewers ranked fourth in the The Pas Special Area Agreement. Only the first three proposals were accepted by the Planning and Priorities Committee for the Province and sent to Ottawa for approval. If approved, The Pas would gain paving, an industrial park site, and a Municipal Library.

Pilot and engineer walk 20 miles to safety

Lambair pilot Steve Ellis and engineer Rod Estey from Thunder Bay Ontario walked twenty miles to Gillam after their helicopter sank in a muskeg lake. They were employed three weeks, with poor weather hampering a multi day search that involved Lambair aircraft.

First DDD Call Made From The Pas In Manitoba

McBryde placed the first DDD call from The Pas at 10 a.m. on Tuesday June 13, marking The Pas as the newest Manitoba community with Direct Distance Dialing. The event featured MLA Peter Burtniak and Deputy Mayor Doug McBride among officials, with tours of Manitoba Telephone System operations.

CN Moves Office in The Pas to New Express Building

Canadian National Telecommunications relocates its The Pas office from 380 Hazelwood Ave to the former express building just north of the CN station. Hours are 9:90 a.m. to noon and 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. Phone during hours is 623-3784. after hours call 623-2523 for service.

Conservation Car Here 23rd

The Conservation railway car, owned by Manitoba Forestry Association, will visit The Pas on Tuesday June 23 for a week. Allan Beaven says school programs will be held during hours with principals’ arrangement to teach renewable resources and forest protection. Admission is free and several exhibits will be shown in the car.

Mary Duncan School Tender Selections Set for Construction

Kelsey School Division Board will select a contractor to complete Mary Duncan Junior High School after re tendering two lowest bids. W. Construction initially won at 501000, with P F Sawatsky Construction 373000 higher. Graham Construction 1 Women The Pas active in related projects was third. Civil and board officials expect work to begin soon and completion possible by year end if the chosen firm starts promptly.

Kelsey Addition Opens Tonight In The Pas

The Kelsey Elementary School addition opens at 8 00 in The Pas. The ceremony will be in the new auditorium with local and outside dignitaries attending. Refreshments follow and tours of the new facilities are offered to the public.

Chicken Village Presents $100 for Pool Charity

Allan Hillsden of Chicken Village gives a $100 check to Jack Johnson for the swimming pool charity. He notes Kentucky Fried Chicken outlets pay a royalty on chickens, divided annually for charity. Last year the pool fund received $150.00.

R.O.H.L Final Meet Set for June 23 at Halcrow Lake

The final summer meeting for Restora tion of Halcrow Lake is scheduled Friday June 23 at 8:00 p.m. at Doug Lambs residence 1127 Halcrow Avenue. All citizens interested in lake restoration may attend as committee progress will be discussed and ratified.

Man Thrown Clear In Barge Explosion

A barge on the Saskatchewan River exploded injuring welder Rene Doucette of The Pas who was welding a tear. He was thrown into the river and rescued by two crew members. the front section damaged and crews plan to relaunch the barge by Friday.
