Bill Forster Retires From M I S After Long Service
Bill Forster joined the Manitoba Telephone System at The Pas in 1949. He served 13 years in systems engineering installing Northern Radio Telephone stations and led the Radio Terminal at The Pas. He moved to the Plant Department in 1962 and retired this week. A dinner and dance on February 6 honored him with a brown recliner chair and a Humble P12 transistor receiver.

Committees Report All Systems Go For 24th Trappers Festival
The 24th Annual Northern Manitoba Trappers Festival will run in The Pas from Wednesday night to Saturday night February 17. Kolchin and Boxer will appear at The Pas fur show despite earlier reports of their absence. The festival opens with a welcome banquet for mushers, with the 150 mile Championship Dog Races set to begin Thursday morning officiated by Chief Gordon Lathlin. The race spans three laps over Thursday Friday and Saturday along the Saskatchewan River starting near Edwards Avenue and the municipal offices. The event concludes with awards for top competitors and the ice palace on the river shore near the race start.

Gas Co Granted Rate Increase in Manitoba

Trophies Donated To Museum From Emil St Goddard
Trophies won by the late Emil St Goddard are donated to Mr Sam Waller of the Little Northern Museum for display. Goddard was famed as the world’s greatest dog musher, winning the 1929 World Championship in The Pas. Also the mounted head of lead dog Tody and a showcase are included.

Juvenile sentencing in The Pas angers merchants

Suspended Sentence For Downtown Window Breaks
Two brothers from Brochet Manitoba received a one year suspended sentence for breaking windows worth 300 dollars at Deter's Confectionery and The Pay Market. They were arrested shortly after the incident on January 20 by local RCMP and held in custody. Magistrate Martin delayed sentencing for a pre sentence report from the probation officer.
