Beards get judged at the Cambrian Hotel beverage room on Saturday February 20 at 11 30 a.m. Dr Martin OBoyle chairs with Lynn Lavelle and Kathy Mer Intosh assisting. Contestants must show written proof they were clean shaven on December 31 1970 and may enter multiple events. Sponsors include Kinsmen Club The Pas Linda Rae's Beauty Salon Emile's Barber Shop and John Doroshenko's Barber Shop.

Northern Manitoba Trappers Festival Kicks Off With Multiple Events
The 24th annual Northern Manitoba Trappers Festival runs February 21 to 20 with a full program. Highlights include an ice worm clue series, rendezvous nights in multiple halls, Queen’s Ball, pancake breakfasts, and a 150 mile Championship Dog Race. Work starts on Opasquia school addition
Early this week excavation begins on the Opasquia Elementary addition at Gordon and 8th. Foreman Vern Graff of Graham Construction says equipment moves in Monday and shacks are erected. Opasquia was chosen as the smallest of three approved additions with completion expected 12 to 14 months after work starts.

Two Break-ins Reported in The Pas Downtown
Two break-ins occurred last week in The Pas downtown at Gateway Drugs and Paris Cafe. At Gateway Drugs the thief smashed the front door around 1:40 a.m. and stole about $10 in silver, with door damage around $250. The Paris Cafe entrance was gained by smashing a window. about 50 packages of cigarettes were taken. Police continue the investigation.

Rotary fulfills pledge for pool in The Pas
Rotary president AL HILLS DEN presents the remaining 2500 to pool chairman JIM GOOD RIDGE of the Kelsey Recreation Commission. The club becomes the first service group in The Pas to fulfill the commitment after delivering the first half of 5000 in 1970 at a Rotary dinner meeting last Tuesday.
