Indian Days Canoe Race Ends in Heat and Tight Finish

The 120 mile Championship Canoe race drew nine starters, six finished in blazing heat as 3,000 fans attended daily. Winners Gerry Kellog and Luc Robi Ward from Quebec City clocked 18 hours 34 minutes 48 seconds for three laps to claim $1,225 in prize money and the Wes Cana Hotel trophy. Irvin Constant and Joe Micelle of The Pas finished 12 minutes later in 18:47:06 to win $800, Simeon Spence and Mike McKenzie of The Pas Cumberland House earned $600 for third in 18:55:20.
