Valley Farmers Face Possible Crop Loss

Valley farmers in Carrot River Valley face potential crop loss due to spring run off and excessive summer rainfall. Harvest look uncertain as frost could prevent maturation. Baxter New Town Supt Appointed by Town Council

Norman Baxter has been named Town Superintendent by the Town Council at their August 16 meeting. He has resided in The Pas for three months, currently serving as a resident technician with Underwood McLellan Associates, the town’s consulting engineers. Previously in Winnipeg and Thompson, he joined The Pas firm as a resident technician and will now work directly in his new role. Continued on page 14.

Fire Chief and Motorist Tangle

Fire Chief Dick Wright suffered minor injuries the evening of August 15 as RCMP alerted the department to an off truck oil leak on Edwards Avenue in front of the Shopping Plaza. Fire crews flushed the oil into sewers to prevent icy conditions. the truck was positioned to manage the spill.

Eastman Named Principal At KCC

Minister Saul Miller announces the appointment of Dr. M. N. G. Eastman of Red Deer Alberta as principal of Keewatin Community College. He replaces GA Joseph who moves to Winnipeg to lead extension and community service at Red River Community College following a division reorganization.

Body in Shed Identified Police name Boucher as victim

Police identify the body found in a shed behind Rev Elstoke Lumber as Alfred Joseph Boucher, 48, of no fixed address. Investigators seek leads to the death, noting asphyxia with alcohol as a contributing factor and have notified next of kin.
