At the Bet ter Living Centre the Sanitation for the Nation exhibit features a castle guarded by Pinkerton guards and cash to illustrate that preventable sickness costs Canadians over a million dollars daily. The display, backed by the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce and funded by a Weed Control district, invites public opinion on a centennial project.
Farmers face thin profit margins due to rising costs and low prices. Weeds cut yields sharply, with 2 thistle plants per yd2 dropping 20 percent and 100 wild oats per yd2 reducing 70 percent. A community weed district led by The Pas and local departments could secure grants for control efforts.
The annual Golf Tournament drew 75 entries as weather cooperated. Four players tied for first in the championship flight triggering a playoff won by Glen Shepherd on the first hole with Doug White and Ted Hamp close contenders.
The Pas Herald reports the August 1969 golf event with Barry Regan winning the longest drive and third place in a six player playoff. Bill Moffat nearly holed out, while Ted Hampson and Adolph Watzel feature among the oldest entrants. Art Johnson wins a $500 golf set and bag from raffle. thanks extend to the Ladies Golf Club for meals.
In the first flight D McElroy and C Bannick both 77 led their group against E Young 79. The second flight saw Saranchuk 78 and Grant 81 trailing M Hagan 83. Third flight included Gibson 81 with W Sigurdson 85 and R Goldstrand 85. Fourth flight featured Chute 96 B Lanigan 97 and K Deighton.
