Publishers announce end of 35 cent four week cycle for Herald delivery

The Herald lays out changes starting September 3 including 10 cent per copy home delivery, weekly 7 cent per customer payments, and a shift to Wednesday distribution. Customers may pick up at outlets or subscribe by mail. deadlines for notices and ads are set with new cash only policy.

Indian Days Celebration Highlights Winnipeg Visit

Marie Jebb crowned princess of the festival by Cornelius Bignell as Indian Days concludes on The Reserve. Marie and four others depart for Winnipeg to meet Mayor Steve Juba after three days of canoe racing with Cecelia Ross and Leona Sinclair winning the women’s five mile event in 42 minutes. The three day contests included a 120 mile men’s canoe race won with a prize of 800 dollars.

School Lists Published by Kelsey School Division

The Kelsey School Division posts the student and teacher lists for elementary and high school grades this week. Parents and students are asked to check the lists to minimize confusion. School opens on Tuesday September 2. Listings appear on page 12 of The Pas Herald.

Work At C F I Site In Full Swing

Construction begins on the forestry complex pulp warehouse site near The Pas as steel girders rise and the camp for about 500 workers starts to take shape. The inset photo shows early steel with the site developing ahead of page 16 coverage.

King Koi Launderette Opens at 220 Fischer Avenue

Grand opening planned for August 29 and 30 at 220 Fischer Avenue. King Koi Launderette, owned by G. Lauze, offers 24 coin operated washers, eight dryers, and a dry cleaning unit open daily 8 am to 11 pm with an attendant. Free washing, drying, soap, bleach, coffee, and doughnuts along with a drawing for a 41 piece Corning Wear set. Dry cleaning specials and $1.50 clearance on eight pounds.

Volunteer Firemen Voice Objection To Towns Treatment

The Pas Volunteer Fire Department protests Town Council handling and seeks higher pay. At the last meeting they asked for rates up from 4 to 5 dollars for the initial call and from 3 to 4 dollars an hour after the first hour. A 1968 fire fighting estimate report shows 6,000 total costs with 4,001 spent and about 1,999 possibly returned to general funds or to cover a deficit in another department.

Labor Day Holiday Notice for The Herald

The Herald offices will be closed on Monday September 1 for Labor Day. Advertising deadline is 11 a.m. Tuesday for the September 3 issue. News items must be in by 5 p.m. Friday August 29.

Council Orders House Demolition on Edwards Avenue

Town council orders demolition of a residence at 319 Edwards Avenue. With 21 residents, the yard is littered with garbage and junk and the interior is dirty. Owners MacLeod-Stedman Limited must be notified the structure will be razed by October 1, 1969 and tenants labeled undesirable. Welfare Department to be informed about tenant impact on the area.
