The town calls for ten bids on a new Paddy Wagon for the RCMP Town Detachment after council cut the budget earlier. Councillor Audrey Batchelor cited the current vehicle as unsafe following a recent safety lane incident requiring towing.
At a recent meeting, residents urged strict enforcement of bicycle bylaws. A letter from RJ Junio complained riders on sidewalks and dangerous cycling practices. Mr Munro cited a non fatal collision causing bruises, and called to address double parking by delivery vehicles and taxis.
The King Koi Launderette on Fischer Avenue beside Gateway Drugs will open August 22. Owned by G. Lauze, it offers 24 coin operated washing machines eight dryers and a dry cleaning unit with coffee and doughnuts served at the opening.
Four CNR diesel units derailed on a curve just north of the Saskatchewan River Bridge Friday. Workers spent over five hours clearing the track. The train with about 200 cars moved slowly and caused traffic delays on the bridge. No injuries or damage reported. cause under investigation. Photo shows crews repairing track and righting engines. None of the units toppled.
Gordon Town Council rejected a proposal to rezone a stretch of Gordon Avenue between Ninth and Twelfth streets to Highway Commercial. About 34 area residents signed the petition opposing the plan to build a $35,000 Ross Fielding coin operated car wash, arguing the 95 percent residential area would lose value.

Entries arrive for The Pas and District Horticultural Society annual show to be held this week at Guy Hall. The event runs from noon to 8 p m on Wednesday and features local flowers vegetables fruit and grains with a gray silver collection taken at the door to cover expenses.

Plans for the Opasquia Indian Days celebration set for August 20 to 23 are in final stage. Prize money totals about 3300 dollars with a new 120 mile professional canoe race offering 800 to the winner and 2000 overall. Entries from Edmonton Flin Flon Moose Lake Pine Falls and others are expected. Local participants have trained for weeks. New races include events for ladies juniors a mixed team race and four man teams. Five Indian princesses are selling tickets to raise funds.
Sgt Gerald Devenny of The Brandon Flying Club is shown in a Cessna 150. He belongs to 303 The Pas Air Cadet Squadron as a local flying graduate and active member.
About 20 Manitoba teachers including Mrs Shirley Dow from Kelsey School Division will attend a five day course on teaching language arts for Grades I to III. The Manitoba Teachers Society sponsors the program at Roblin Intermediate School Roblin August 18 to 22 with instructor Mrs Katherine Mollard principal at Stony Mountain.
Manitoba Hydro to install a street light in the lane between Ed's Food Centre and Haye's Funeral Home after a council vote prompted by a letter from A R Hayes. Hayes notes repeated break ins at Bert's Quick Freeze now Ed's Food Centre and urges action for the four businesses backing the lane, which generate four to six thousand dollars in tax revenue.
