Manitoba Education Studies Terminal Course for Slow Learners
A panel of 16 Manitoba educators studies a terminal course aimed at pupils who struggle in standard programs. Education minister Hon. Genore Johnson notes the Royal Commission backed a program offering broad general education plus practical training for employment. A July 27 to August 7 seminar gathers teachers, inspectors, and vocational officials to set course name, grades, entrance standards, aims, structure, and transfer relations to junior vocational schools. The commission argues such a separate program helps students who cannot meet Grade 10 matriculation standards but can benefit from an additional year of focused study.

Flooded by 7 foot waves she swam from 8:20 am to 2:50 pm before being pulled from the water one mile from her goal. Her guide Bernie Rickborn recalled she would likely have finished in five hours in calmer conditions. The distress began opposite Clearwater Lake Airport as waves rose and current turned rough.
