Kip Kourt rental residence opens in The Pas

The Pas hosts the Kip Kourt rental residence opened Saturday August 8 at two. Sponsored by the Kinsmen Club The Pas the complex cost 96909.80 and includes eight double units five singles with central living areas a kitchenette and laundry. Al Boggs led the club project. Harvey Beech succeeded as president guiding early work.

Province considers purchase of Mid Canada Station site

Premier Duff Roblin announced the provincial public works department will bid to buy the abandoned Mid Canada Station facilities at Cranberry Portage. He spoke in Virden during a cabinet grass roots meeting. The plan remains undisclosed though he said the government has interesting plans. Health Welfare Education Public Works and the Attorney General studied the site.

Manitoba Students Join Eastern Western Centennial Exchange

Sandra Hayes a Grade 12 student from Margaret Barbour Collegiate leaves Winnipeg by CN for Edmonston New Brunswick as one of 20 Manitoba pupils in the second east west centennial exchange program The National Centennial Commission coordinates the program with provincial committees for future exchanges Across the years thousands of Canadian students are expected to participate The Manitoba group will use Edmonston as headquarters arriving back August 12 Nova Scotia students arrive in Winnipeg for a three day visit before moving on to Brandon for the remainder of the week

Cadets Sail For Two Weeks Of Training At Trenton

Thirteen members of The Pas Air Cadet Squadron depart Saturday for a two week cameraining program at the RCAF station Trenton Ontario. They travel by bus to Flin Flon to board an RCAF flight for Trenton. The Herald photographer captured them before departure.

Gareau Family Stage Reunion At The Pas Farm

Seventy two Gareau family members gathered last Saturday at LaMoal farm near The Pas for a first reunion presided by Mr and Mrs Alex Gareau. Attendees included 40 grandchildren and 10 other relatives, with members from The Pas Calgary Fort Nelson Fort Churchill and Campbell River among others.

Cadet Sargeant Reg Hunchuk Receives Flying Scholarship

A 17 year old cadet from The Pas attends Margaret Barbour Collegiate and trains at the Gimli Flying Club RCAF Station Gimli Manitoba. Upon month long course completion he will obtain a private pilot license and Air Cadet Wings.
