Karen Dion hoped to swim 18 miles across Clearwater Lake from Camper's Cove to Cormorant Creek aided by her father Dink Dion an observer and two boats. Poor weather forced a delayed 6:15 start after plans to begin at 2 am.
Uncle Vince Leach of the Winnipeg Tribune will bring 18 West Kildonan Little League players to The Pas for an exhibition baseball game at 7 PM this Friday and a soccer match the next day on The Pas Reserve. Billets and some meals are requested, with contact numbers for hosting volunteers. The visit aims to inspire Winnipeg youth through northern Manitoba experiences.
Sixteen Boy Scouts from The Pas depart for a Canadian jamboree at Portage la Prairie with Don Snider and Ray Harmatiuk leading the local unit. The 720 scouts include nineteen from Quebec, forming the group nicknamed The Frenchies as they take an early lead in camp life. The camp opened Sunday with Lt. Governor Errick Willis presiding after a march past.
The RCMP want The Pas town to bill for ambulance calls using the police patrol wagon both inside and outside town when Hayes ambulance service is unavailable. A confidential memo was released to the press, noting emergencies may justify fees and asking for policy direction. Council referred the matter to the police chairman for action.

The Pas Indian and Metis Friendship Center launches its own periodical the Birch Bark Mail with Editor Lou White. The 18 page mimeographed issue costs $1 yearly or 10 cents per copy and aims to amplify Indigenous and Metis voices in regions with limited communications while inviting community news and progress reports.
The Town of The Pas approved a grant of 350 dollars to the The Pas Indian and Metis Friendship Center last Wednesday. The grant increases the tax relief for the Center, with only the education levy of 340.71 to be paid, following a Manitoba Welfare department offer of up to 4000 dollars. The department later approved the larger grant after town support was pledged.
The Kinsmen officially opened Kin Kourt a senior housing project with eight double units and five singles costing 96 million. Ceremony featured Neil Macphee cutting the ribbon, Ted Scoles receiving the master key, and support from Lions Rotary Legion Orange Lodge Pas Lumber Co and CMHC linked grants totaling thousands in donations.

RCMP continue probe into the Government Liquor Control Commission break-in that occurred early last Saturday. Police report recovery of all missing merchandise including 12 bottles vodka 3 bottles rye and one bottle scotch found in nearby back lanes close to the outlet. Entry details continued on page 6.
The Pas hosts the first annual Churchill Excursion with 17 cars and 250 visitors on their return from stops including Flin Flon Cranberry Portage Thompson and Churchill. Visitors receive cordial welcomes while learning about local shops Indian handicrafts the Friendship Center and nearby developments such as Opasquai land and Clearwater Lake. The city highlights The Trappers Festival held every February featuring Northern contests and a 150 mile dog race known as The World Championship.
