Ramettes Club Names New Officers and Members

Ramettes and PHS Girls' group recently elected Joyce as president and Donna as vice president. Miller Lee and Alice Bayles named treasurer and reporter respectively. A formal tea to welcome new members is planned Saturday night at the Home club, with pledges and fees to be presented and served.

School Classes Elect Officers

Last week in both Junior and Senior High School classes officers were elected for the coming year. Each class named a president, vice president, secretary and treasurer, manager of amusements, reporter, and advisers. The listed leaders include Gaytha Lamoreaux, Joyce Guyman, Steve Adams, Alan Morrie, Eugene Robbins, Donald Gurr and others, with advisers Messrs. Daughters of Parowan Residents Wed in Mesa Reception

Hazel Dawn Macdonald and Bob Riggs, long residents of Parowan, wed Sept 1 in the LDS Temple with President J L Straching officiating. A gala wedding reception at Mari copa Inn drew over 500 guests. The bride, daughter of Grant Macdonald, Mesa, wore ivory satin with chantilly lace and seed pearl detailing. groom is son of Mrs Jethro Hathcock, Mesa, and L Alton Riggs Sr., Tempe. Sisters Reunite After 57 Years in Southern Utah Visit

Four Redd sisters marked a rare reunion in Parowan and the Southern Utah Canyons. Luella Adams, Ellen Bryner, Mesia Romney, and Alice Rich joined by Dr. R Bryner toured Mammoth, Cedar Breaks, and Bryce Canyon, sharing a long awaited family gathering.

Polio Drive Meets With Success in Parowan

Mrs. Marvin Graff reports a total of 223.45 collected for the recent polio drive in Parowan, with every business in the city contributing along with many individuals. Last Rites Held For Amanda J Benson

Funeral services for Amanda Jenson Benson were held Thursday in the West Ward with Bishop W Evans presiding. The service featured a mixed quartet, solos, and prayers, with pallbearers named. Benson died after two strokes and years of partial paralysis, with care at County Rest Home.

Parowan Matron Sarah Stevens Reaches 84

Mrs. Sarah Ann Eyre Stevens, lifelong Parowan resident, observed on her eighty fourth birthday. Born September 13 1865 to John and Sarah Eyre, she married John Stevens January 26 1885 and has lived in Parowan since. A longtime LDS Church worker, she served as Relief Society officer and visiting teacher for over fifty years. Her children grandchildren and great grandchildren are named among the eight offspring and large family.

Utah Water Users Association Annual Meeting Next Week

The Utah Water Users Association will hold its annual meeting in Salt Lake City at the Newhouse Hotel on September 28 and 29, 1949. Ida P. Smith of Parowan was elected president of the Iron County Daughters of Utah Pioneers at a noon meeting. Officers named include Hazel Pendleton as 1st vice president Dorothy Ward 2nd vice president Anna Alama reg ular Mary Orton custodian of relics Luella Dalton historian Mamie Orton chorister and Mette Robinson organizer. The election followed a convention of DUP chapters from Beaver Washington and Iron Counties in the Old Rock Church basement with state officials Cornelia Land and Alice Silver in attendance. Retiring president Molita B. Fenton was acknowledged. The DUP officers vote rule was strictly observed.

Nerda Memmott Wm Barton Wed In Nevada

Nerda Memmott daughter of Mrs. Mala Robins of Parowsa married William H Barton son of Mr. and Mrs. Austin Barton of Paragonah in a September ceremony in Piccne Nevada. Both attended Pagowan fife school. The bride was a senior at Utila school and may pursue a home career. Barton served four years in the Army Air Corps, including time with the Phe Uppines, and has worked for Columbia Iron Mining Co since March. The couple plan a Parowan home and a wedding reception soon.

Composite Military Group To Organize Sept 28 Meeting

Local Couple Enjoys Trip To San Diego

Mr and Mrs Twenty Orton, married 25 years, took their first honeymoon trip as Desert News guests. Mrs Orton won Claus B vacation contest with all expenses paid to El Cajon. They traveled Sept 9 via Los Angeles, stayed five days at Imig Manor, enjoyed a suite and meals, tours of Balboa Park Zoo and Old Mexico detour. The couple also visited Tajuma coast and Old Mexico sights.

Paragonah 4-H Girls Show Off State Fair Outfits

Miss Eleanor Stones and Wanda Hunt from Paragonah modeled their 4-H outfits at the Utah State Fair in Salt Lake City. They won the Iron Co. 4-H Style dress revue at the county fair and showcased their handmade clothes as a 4-H summer project. The group toured the city, saw fair exhibits, and returned home Tuesday evening with red and blue ribbons for other Paragonah 4-H members in cooking and sewing.

Parish Baptismal Services Scheduled Saturday Evening

Baptismal services will be held Saturday at 5 p.m. in the Best Ward as announced by the Bishoprics. Parowan Stake members are urged to participate and both Parowan Wards will observe Fast Day services on Sunday instead of the first Sunday in October due to attendance at General Conference in Salt Lake City.
