Monuments Mark Early Parowan Pioneering Sites

An unveiling ceremony at Parowan honors early temple locations and the first county school, with monuments presented by Utah Pioneers, led by Melita B. Fenton and Luella A. Dalton. Dignitaries Mrs. Mickelsen and Mrs. Reb Muller helped dedicate markers near the old Com Hall and Opera House and the Alwin Benson building as part of a yearlong marker program.

Big Game Con changes drainage boundaries in hunting unit

The Board of Big Game Con approved two changes in reclamation for unit 12859 dated August 10 1949. The Paragonah Wood special hunting unit will include only drainage from Red Canyon south to Freemont Pia Valley road and the Upper Bear Valley drainages. Details continue on page four.

Contributions Still Accepted For Pelio Drive

Mrs. Marvin Graff, Pelio Emergency Drive Chairman, reports every home and business has been contacted and responded generously. She notes many families were not at home during the canvass and invites those wishing to help to send contributions to her home by Monday evening.

East Ward MIA announces its first meeting will be held Tuesday at 8 p.m. in the Chapel. Mary Lyman, president, selects Veda Avams as activity counselor and Kathleen Clark as manual counselor. County Commissioners Approve Flood Control and Fire Aid

Parowan meeting actions include signing an easement for Columbia Iron Mining Co to build transmission lines on county land. A flood control project on Ahoa Creek was approved for one third of costs totaling 1247 dollars. Cedar City received 800 dollars to hire a full time fireman for the remainder of 1949, with city to maintain adequate rural fire protection. Earl Anderson to prepare spring orchard spraying. Local Lady Suffers Steam Burns

Mrs. Ross Orton sustained second degree burns to the face and neck from steam escaping a pressure cooker after she removed the lid while cooking corn last Friday. The unfastened lid allowed sufficient steam to burn despite lack of other precautions.

Amanda J Benson Dies After Long Illness

Amanda J Jensen Benson 58 of Parowan Cedar City died Monday after a six year paralytic stroke. Born February 20 1881 in Cedar City daughter of Andrew and Ingrait Jensen she married J Monroe Benson in 1912. Funeral in Parowan West Ward Chapel burial Parowan City Cemetery.

Gold Star Mothers Social Scheduled for Sept 24

The American Legion Auxiliary invites Gold Star Mothers and all veterans’ mothers to a social event on Saturday September 24 from 2 to 4 PM in the West Ward Relief Society rooms. Residents of Parowan Summit and adjoining areas welcome. A program and refreshments are planned with Anna M Adams, Auxiliary President, Post No 20.

Social Security Rep To Visit Cedar City September 20

Sherman H. Ruesch of the Provo Social Security Office will meet at the U S Employment Service in Cedar City on Tuesday September 20 1049 at 9 00 a m to answer questions about Federal Old Age and Survivors Insurance and help eligible workers and their families file for benefits. He stresses many over 65 unaware they can receive benefits for months unemployed between jobs in addition to Utah unemployment payments.

Personal News Notes Highlight Parowan Visit And Local Ties

Mrs. Frankie Dalley Coutta of Oakland and her daughter Helen visited Parowan with the Sidney Pritchard family, reuniting kin after six years. Helen, known to film fans as Mesias McClure, is rising in Hollywood with husband Marvin Finch. The party also spent time in Salt Lake City with Nellie Marie Dalley and Beatrice Bringhurst. Local events include alfalfa seed deliveries to Salt Lake, a sprained ankle for Mrs. Clair Stevens, and Supt. Wright inspecting a new Cyclone fence around the High School athletic field.Several residents, including Lois Jean Heaps after a highway crash, are recovering. Fifth Judicial District Court Holds September Session

The Fifth Judicial District Court opened a September session with State of Utah versus Clifford Jake set for trial on October 6 in Parowan before Judge Will T. Hoyt. Patrek H. Fenton appointed to represent the defendant who pleaded not guilty to a morals charge.

Trucks Collide At Street Intersection

Two trucks collided at an intersection on Sunday afternoon injuring Mr and Mrs John Mitchell and their nine year old daughter Vanda. The Ford driven by Mitchell and a Chevrolet driven by Dee Robinson sustained major damage. Robinson was uninjured and no negligence found. both drivers held responsible for not seeing the other vehicle.

Cedar School Building Bid Awarded to Moron Perry

Moron Perry of Cedar City won the lowest bid among seven for the Cedar School elementary project. The $227,579 bid covers construction except plumbing, electrical, furniture, and cabinet work. a contract may be signed this week with work starting soon.

Newborn Pink Bundle Blesses Rogerson Family At Hospital
