Parowan High School Reports Early Registration

Principal L. B. Bennett says about 256 students have registered at Parowan High School with repurchases nearly complete after next Monday. He urges all prospective entrants to register by Monday September 25 to avoid missing past work and falling behind the current class schedule.

The Parowan Literary Club entertained last Friday at Mrs. Georgia B. Mitchell's home in honor of former member Mrs. Clifton Chatterley who now lives in Cedar City. Guests played bridge and visited before luncheon.

First Football Game Postponed For A Week

The first six man football game between Cedar City High and Parowan High is postponed to next Friday afternoon. Kanab and Orderville high schools cannot participate, reducing Parowan’s schedule to five games with only two home dates. The updated slate lists Cedar High at Parowan September 29, Parowan at Beaver October 6, Parowan at Dixie October 13, Hurricane at Parowan October 20, Parowan at Milford November 3, plus the first student body dance rescheduled to next Friday with Rhythm Kings.

Cedar CCC Camp to Move to Modena

Word indicates the Cedar CCC camp will be abandoned as new quarters near Eight Mile Spring west of Modena are finished in about six weeks. Move expected between November 1 and 15 with Cedar City buildings to be torn down and salvaged.

John W Taylor obituary and funeral held in town

John W. Taylor aged 64 lifelong resident of this community died Sunday morning at his home after a cerebral hemorrhage following a stroke on July 14. Funeral services were held Monday at 3 p.m. in the West Ward chapel with Elder Arnold Stevens in charge. Surviving are three brothers J A Taylor Bountiful Utah Wesley Taylor Thatcher Arizona Newry Taylor of this city and sister Lenora Walker Cedar City.

Taxpayer Compares Levies for 1993 1999

The Sept Nov Utah Tax Payer notes state and local levies for 1938 and 1934 for all taxing units. Many towns raise taxes while counties mostly cut, schools show mixed moves, and 25 communities face high levies between 40 and 60 mils. State levies rise with a restored general fund and a 24 mill state school fund increase, signaling a broader tax burden despite a falling assessed valuation. Alvin Decker Named New Dairy Co Manager in Utah

Alvin Decker was chosen by the Board of Directors as the new manager of the Southern Utak Dairy Company, succeeding R. L. Fenton. Decker arrives with several years at the plant and will maintain current staffing. Grant Benson shifts to morning milk touch duties and grocery work, Claude Lister remains in charge of the meat department, and Miss Orilla Abbatt stays as office clerk after Miss Trene Marsden’s resignation. Fenton will stay briefly to aid Decker before departing.

Daltons Hace Horse Makes Good Record in Southern Utah Circuit

Dale the four year old mare owned by Deputy Sheeser Wm. M. Dalton of this city posted one of the best records in a season across Provo to Milford fairs. She raced in 21 events, won about six first places, five seconds and one third, never finished outside the money with earnings around 62 dollars. Trained by Arthur Petersen, Dale raced at Provo Spanish Fork Payson Richfield Manti Nephi Milford Fillmore Kanosh and possibly other places. Petersen took Dale and another horse to Albuquerque for a seven day meet. Other horses like Rampage and Parowsa Red owned by BR G L Fenton also posted good showings this season. Mrs Clark Hardy Jett visited Shelley and Salt Lake City en route to Shelley. Mrs Jean M Bulloch of Cedar City spent time with the Matheson family here. Alma Evans and Mrs Evans closed on a home sale from Wm E Thornton and plan to move in.

Temple Marriage Unites Local Girl and Beaver Boy

Miss Lucile Evans and Ora Hohteins of Beaver were married in the Mant temple with Elder Robert D. Young officiating. The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. Leonard Evans, is a local high school graduate who attended Dixie Junior College. The groom is from Beaver. a reception for 250 guests will follow at the West Ward Church Relief Rooms with a program, games, dancing, and refreshments.

Many P H S Graduates Attend B A C at Cedar City

Parowan High graduates form a large colony at Branch Agricultural College in Cedar City. About twenty students, including Claudia Pendleton and Barbara Smith, live in dorms or with families while commuting. Others plan to attend St George Junior College, Brigham Young University, Utah State Agricultural College, or the University of Utah.

Tron County Proclaims Two Day Pheasant Season

A proclamation by Newell B. Conker of the State Fish and Game Commission sets a two day pheasant hunt in Tron County on Sunday and Monday November 5th and 6th with rules on firearms hours and a daily bag limit of three males and possession limit of six. Other counties have varying seasons, quail and duck openings, and general regulations across the state.
