Fred Smith the Parowan City Marshall assists children crossing Main Street to and from school and has placed pedestrian crossing signs in crosswalks. He helps slow traffic during school hours and teaches the children to use marked lanes for safety.
A delegation from the Parowan Chamber of Commerce urged enforcement of the Greenriver Ordinance and zoning rules at the Monday night meeting. The council agreed to enforce the ordinance and consider an extended fire zone and an industrial zone. Citizens were asked to report peddlers lacking licenses, and a blue card system to verify credentials was discussed. Committees will pursue building inspection, zones, and related matters.
Funeral services for John Calvin Evans 73 were held in Parowan Third Ward Chapel directed by Bishop Howard M Adams. Evans died after a lingering illness the prior Thursday. Music included soloists and a double mixed quartet. speakers included Bishop Howard Adams Barbara M Adams and W Clair Rowley. Surviving are his widow four sons two daughters and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Miss LoRen Orton daughter of Mr and Mrs Lorin G Orton wed Brent John Lovell son of Mr and Mrs Marvin L Lovell in a double ring ceremony Sept 21 at the bride’s parents home. Bishop George S Rowley officiated. The couple plan to live in Logan while Lovell studies at USU.

Funeral services were held Saturday for Mrs. Etta Robinson Lister Averill 72 who died after surgery in Iron County Hospital. The service at Parowan included Marvin Graff and F C Van Buren as speakers, with music by a mixed quartet and a vocal solo by Howard Knight. She was born April 19 1885 in Parowan to Arthur H and Sarah Henderson Robinson and had lived in Parowan since. Survivors include a daughter and four sons, many grandchildren and great grandchildren, plus siblings and half siblings.
Open house was held Sunday at Paragonah for Thomas Robinson who turned 94 on Sept 19 1957. He is the oldest male resident of the community and was born Sept 19 1863 to iron County pioneers John R and Jane Robinson. He worked as a farmer carpenter and blacksmith and served as first counsellor in the bishopric for 23 years. He married Susanne Topham in the St George Temple on April 30 1885. she died in 1950. He has a daughter Myrtle Abbott and a son Thomas A Robinson along with 12 grandchildren 33 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Uncles Tom recalls the old fort and early Paragonah landmarks with mud and rock fences and livestock corrals.
Parowan High School sets homecoming for Friday Oct 4 with events starting Oct 3 a pep rally assembly at 11 00 am and Rammettes in charge Ex hibits by students on display during the day A football game between Parowan Rams and Cane Tigers halves Rammettes precision drill climax with a dance in the high school gym Townspeople invited to join the fun.
Parowan First Ward Relief Society opens with a Monday Sept 30 program led by president Mrs Metta Mortensen. Women of the Ward invited, with babysitting. Regular work begins the first Monday in October. Second Ward social set for Tuesday Oct 1 at 2 PM with luncheon and babysitting.
Gaytha Benson is named president of the Second Ward Relief Society with counsellors Lawana Tullis and Nina Taylor and Emma Mortensen continuing as secretary. Outgoing president Leta Evans and counselors Dorothy Rowley and Margaret Stubbs exit their roles.
Final tribute paid to Eva R. Bennett 78 who died after a lingering illness at the home of a brother in law and sister Scott Mitchell Tuesday evening. Services were conducted in Parowan Third Ward Chapel by Bishop Howard M Adams with interment in Parowan City Cemetery. Pallbearers included Vivian W Bennett Frank Whitney Kent Boyde Robert Mitchell Homer W Adams Roca Katherine and Marcella Mitchell. Survivors include daughter in law Alice T Richards and three grandchildren.
PHS selects John Wood as Parowan High School coach and driver training instructor. Wood, a Murray HS All State basketball player with four letters in high school sports, served three years in the Air Force, studied at CSU and BYU, earning four sport letters. He and wife Virginia have two sons, Brady and Scott, and will live in Ferris Evans’ home while directing physical education. Birth announced for Grant Morton’s daughter on Sept 12 in Reseda California with Mortenson and Jones families visiting Salt Lake City for medical consults and the State Fair.
Six blocks of Paragonal Town streets have been oiled over two weeks. Streets around the church blocks and the Paragonah school are completed. Union Construction Company did the oiling, under a road contract in Parowan Canyon and an oiling contract on Parowan City streets. The Paragonah job cost about $6,000, paid from Class C road funds.

Mrs. Maude Wiley of Anti mony Utah spent Saturday visiting here with her niece Mrs. Clara Warner and Mary lyn Warner.
Mr and Mrs Howard Dehm and their son Howard Jr of Huntington Park California spent a week visiting with the Thos Skougards here recently.
