County fair exhibit results list numerous winners across vegetable, fruit, and field crop classes. Notable names include Ivan Decker, Jean Decker, Arvilla Mortensen, Silas Topham, Fred Smith, Wm. T. Orton, Clair Rowley, and Taylor Miller among others from Paragonah Cedar and surrounding areas. Awards cover beans, beets, corn, squash, grapes, plums, peaches, pumpkins, and best vegetable crops with multiple firsts and second-place honors noted.
Notice to stockholders explains stock certificates for the Bank of Iron County are awaited and may list two names per certificate to allow joint ownership with survivorship. It notes the form "John C. Doe or Edith H. Doe" avoids court action and that few have chosen a second name.
Emma Gene Partner daughter of Mr and Mrs Cyril Partner and Don Rollins son of Mr Evan Rollins were united in marriage last Saturday evening September 13 at the bride's parents home in Paragonah with Bishop Burt Robinson performing the ceremony. Clayton Tulis was best man Elna Halterman brides maid. The bride wore a white formal dress and the groom a brown suit.
Branch Agricultural College reports a record enrollment of nearly 500 students from 18 counties and five other states including New York. The orientation program involved sophomores juniors and freshmen with testing and counseling plus the Kuder Vocational Preference Record.
The Virgin District Bureau of Land Management will hold advisory board elections in Cedar City Utah on Wednesday October 1 1947 to fill three year terms for Kamen S Gardner LeRoy Larson and Archie P Spilsbury Nominations begin at 1 00 p m and balloting runs from 2 to 5 p m Voting will be at the Cedar City Post Office assembly room officers to place ballots onsite.
Funeral services for William Pritchard held Saturday at 2 00 pm in Parewan East Ward LDS Chapel Parowan led by Bishop Jess W Guymon with a mixed quartet and several speakers Luella Adams Barbara Adams Walter Granger Opal Guyman Richop Guyman and Richop Guyman special musical numbers included a violin solo Berceuse by Ralph Marsden and a vocal That Silver Haired Daddy of Mine by Mary O Topham with Mary Lyman at the piano The service opened with There a Beautiful Land and closed with Oh My Father before graveside benediction by David A Matheson Continued on Back Page.
Cedar City audiences of about 2500 packed the public school auditorium for four nights of the Centennial Celebration as the Iron County Commission sponsored Brigham Young and the Pioneers. Taylor Miller led the cast as Brigham Young with Ralph Benson as the Irish ex-soldier providing comedy and romance.
A note expresses gratitude to Mrs. King and Mrs. Mitchell for decorating the cent float in last week’s parades. The effort of Mrs. Edgar Benson, Mrs. Grace Holyoak, Mrs. Mary Lyman, Mrs. Ray Lyman, and Miss Lennie Page is acknowledged along with help from Ray Mitchell and Mr. Kine.
Clair and Mark Stevens, two young sons of former Parowan resident John Stevens and Mrs. Stevens of Cowley Wyoming, were killed Friday September 12 when their car collided with a large oil truck between Levell and Cowley. Clair leaves a wife and three children. Mark a wife. Relatives reported the tragedy to their Parowan connections.

Relief Society leaders urge ladies to study lesson magazines ahead of next month’s presentations. The bishoprics report a strong turnout for last Saturday’s Welfare Corn drive, with 75 cases canned, marking the year’s completion of the assignment.
At the annual Ladies Night banquet in Parowan the Chamber of Commerce elected a new officer group for the coming year. Mr KR Midich Benson was elected president replacing Iwan Decker, Samuel J Whitney becomes vice president replacing W Clair Rowley, and Marvin Graff takes over secretary duties from Kent Mitchell.
A Parowan Chamber of Commerce slate of officers is praised by a past president who urges local citizens to support the new leaders in civic improvement. Socials organized by the Young Men and Young Ladies Mutual Improvement Associations across wards set for next Tuesday evening September 23 in the recreation hall at 8 30 pm. Dues are 35 cents for men and 25 cents for women at entry. North and East Ward leaders named with presidents and councilors listed, while some officer roles remain to be announced.
Eugene Robinson son of James C. Robinson of Parowan has won a Washington University fellowship in St. Louis. He graduated from Utah State Agricultural College last spring and travels with his parents from Parowan to Salt Lake City before flying to begin research in physics.
John Logan Lowder Sr. 86, died at his Parowan home Monday evening after a week of illness caused by an abscess behind an eye. He was blind for nearly 30 years but remained active until days before his death. Funeral services were held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in the Parowan East Ward LDS Chapel. Survivors include children John L. Lowder Jr. of Cedar City Leone Burton of Culver City Calif Oneita Bigher of Los Angeles Camilla Garris of North Carolina Laure Henson and Clair Lowder of Parowan, 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Seven brothers and sisters are named.
Visiting in Parowan during fair week were Bert Miller of Salt Lake City with the John H. Miller family and Boyd Morris of Ogden with his parents. Several families from Dixie and beyond attended gatherings, fished local lakes, and traveled for funeral services in St George for Dr. Howard Ahlstrom.
