Accident Takes Life of Husband of Former Paragonah Lady

Relatives in Paragonah were shocked by the death of Mina Archie Beauregard of Salt Lake City on the David O. McKay building project at Utah Valley University in Provo. A scaffold cable broke as he and a coworker worked on exterior masonry, sending Beauregard about 20 feet to the ground. He died en route to a hospital. the other worker escaped injury. Beauregard, born Sept. 10, 1898 in Sterling, Sanpete County, was married Feb. 7, 1931 to Effie Robinson Beauregard of Paragonah and left a widow, a son, two daughters, and three grandchildren. Funeral services were held in Salt Lake City with Paragonah relatives traveling for the service.

Marilyn Ward Returns From Washington D C

Miss Marilyn Ward arrived in Parowan after eight months in Washington D C as part of Senator Wallace F Bennett's secretarial staff. She served as chief secretary later, plans to visit her parents the Wards before heading to Salt Lake City to resume studies at the University of Utah for the upcoming term. Ward left for Salt Lake City Sept 14 to join sorority pre season activities.

Service man Larry Dailey returns home on leave

A/F Larry Dailey, son of Mr and Mrs Lawrence Dailey, arrived home for a two week leave after completing boat training at San Diego. He flew from his San Francisco assignment and is set to return to San Francisco on Sept 20. He will then be shipped out as an apprentice fireman on the USS Ashtabula, an oil tanker.

Paragonah Ward Relief Society Reorganized

The Paragonah Ward Relief Society formed a new presidency last Sunday. Former president Mrs Emma Dalton and counselors Mrs Evelyn Davenport and Mrs Leah Jean Boardman were released. New president Mrs Meilya Barton with counselors Mrs Leena Stones and Mrs Alta Dalton. Mrs Stones leaves Young Ladies M I A. Mrs Erma Lamoreaux to fill that post.

Parowan Personal News Notes Holiday Visitors Abound

Parowan residents welcomed a wide circle of guests over the holiday weekend. Nellie Orton and Lydia Patterson of Beaver visited Mr George Stevens, with Rex Ward of Salt Lake City also staying at his mother Dottie Ward’s home. Jess Guymon hosted Lloyd Guymon and two Henderson, Nevada youths, plus the Paramores and the Bayles families. Howard Lowe, former Parowan music instructor, drew crowds at the Iron County Fair as he prepares for a Tahiti mission. Many trips and hospital exchanges filled the week, including Northen Utah consultations for Don Cartwright and extended stays for Phoebe Taylor, Phoebe Anderson’s mother, amid ongoing family travel and health notes.

Parowan Conference Brings Ward and Stake Workers Together

All Ward and Stake Primary Association workers of Parowan and Beaver Stakes meet in Parowan on Saturday September 18 for an all day conference led by Mrs. Katherine Smith Gilbert and Mrs. Berniece Einzinger. Morning sessions begin 9 45 am with box lunches provided at noon. A general meeting concludes the day. the Stake Home Builders banquet is postponed to September 22 with details to follow.

Stake MIA Girls Complete Soft Ball Tourney

The Enoch Ward defeated Parowan Third 16 to 14 in a tied five inning final played at Parowan to cap a stake wide tournament in which Parowan Second and Paragonah also posted wins. Beverly Pendleton, stake women's sports director, led the event with ward leaders coaching.

Primary election votes shape Iron County races in Utah

Iron County voters face crucial choices in the Tuesday primary for both parties. Democrats pick between Eugene M. Orton and Florence S. Benson for County Recorder, while Republicans decide on state legislature representative Heber M. Levy versus Clarence Lamoreaux, county commissioner contenders Lyman Levy and Myron Higbee, two year term commissioner candidates Jess Guyman and Mary Lyman, and county attorney incumbent Durham Morris versus Albert M. Marsden. The winners advance to November battles with Democratic opponents or unaffiliated contests.

Third Ward MIA Special Program Set For Tuesday

A program by 19 Third Ward members and others will be presented by the MILA on Tuesday night September 14 at 7 p.m. The program titled The Ward We Live In honors former Bishoprics and the current Ward Family. Ellen Miller daughter of KR Taylor Miller Parowan and Thomas Jones son of James Jones Beaver plan a September 17 wedding at the First Second Ward Church. The couple will celebrate with a reception and dance in Recreation Hall the same evening. Ellen, a Parowan High School graduate, attended BYU and works at the Utah State Road Commission Cedar City. Thomas, Beaver High School graduate and Korean War veteran, will continue studies at College of Southern Utah in Cedar City. They will reside in Cedar City after the ceremony.
