Marketta Phillips Murray Ashdown and Murray Ashdown wed in Las Vegas in a ceremony led by KR I Hughes. The bride wore navy taffeta with orchid corsage and the couple, fresh from their vows, plan a honeymoon to Boulder Dam Grand Canyon and Southern Utah Parks. They reside in Parowan while the groom works for Utah Construction Co. at Iron Mountain.

Primary Election Set For Tuesday September Fifth

Iron County voters are reminded of the primary election to be held Tuesday September 5. Ballots printed in the Times guide voters on candidates for November. Parowan Precinct No 1 votes at the County Courthouse District No 2 at the City Library basement Tarent No 7 at the Elementary wheel building. If out of town obtain an absentee ballot from the County Clerk at the courthouse.

School Lunch Starts Tuesday at 15 Cents

Mrs. Leone Lyman announces school lunches begin Tuesday on the first day of school. Each student pays 15 cents, the same price as last year.

Union Meeting Sunday in West Ward Church

The first Relief Society union meeting of the season will be held Sunday at 2 40 p m in the West Ward Church with the Priesthood leadership meeting. Mrs Edna S Hatch urges all executive and special officers and magazine representatives as well as class leaders to attend to hear the coming year lessons previewed.

Rex Lloyd Named Chief Of Boulder Mine Bureau Plant

Rex Lloyd, veteran metallurgist with the bureau of mines, was named chief of the Boulder City electro metallurgical branch to succeed the late Cr. Davis who died February 21. He has served as acting chief since then and was confirmed by H. Miller, director of region 3, in San Francisco. Lloyd, who joined the Boulder City plant in 1936 after Utah engineering school, has held multiple positions and now heads the local laboratories. He resides at 1330 Denver Street with his family and is active in the LDS church Lions club and chamber of commerce. He is the son of Cora Lloyd of Parowen.

Iron County Fair celebration gains momentum

A long week of events anchors the 3 day Iron County Fair with community projects and youth participation. Church leaders appoint Quorum of Seventy members to new stake roles, including Oscar A. Kirkham guiding organizational changes and the shift in stake leadership as officials retire and appoint successors.

Primaries Open Sept 12 in Purowan Ward

The Purowan Ward primaries will begin September 12 after a month’s break. Mrs Jean Hendrickson, Luke primary president, urges parents to bring children to the first meeting where this year’s work will be introduced. Teachers note activity books and handles to purchase. Meetings for Teichers and regular primaries set for 2:39 and the main session at an unspecified start time.

New Arrivals Bring Trio of Boys and A Baby Girl

Mrs Delbert Mortensen aided Grant’s family in Orem over the past week. A Thursday arrival added a third son to the Grant Mortensen household. A girl born August 25 at Des Memorial Hospital in Ogden to George Lynn and Mildred Hinkerman of Sahara Village expands their family to three girls. Robert, Patricia, and Sharon, siblings to the newborn, visited Parowan with grandparents the R L Haltermans and Mildred's sisters Maude Halterman and Huldah Hulet. Keith remained at work. A healthy boy weighing six pounds was born to Garn and Rose Bentley Page on Monday August 28 at Iron County Hospital, with paternal grandparents John and Maggie Page of Parowan.

Paragonal Service Men Farewell Social Honors Guard Members

Friday evening a farewell party honored national guard men leaving and those returning from other branches. Families of departing and current service members attended a large crowd. A fine program was presented and dancing followed.

Stevens Family Reorganizes at Paragonah Reunion

Joseph EK Ward was elected president with Emily Riding as 1st vice president and Chester Stevens as 2nd vice president, Pearl Russell re-elected secretary treasurer. Attendance listed 63 members with several absentees due to health and travel. County fair events include 4-H judging, crafts, livestock judging, a horse show, and upcoming parades with notable demonstrations by World Champion American Saddlers.

Utah Elk Season Opens with Preseason Hunt in Rich County

The Utah elk season began Saturday August 12 in Rich County with twenty elk allowed for take in the farming district. Nine elk have been bagged as hunters from hills arrive early, including Corinne's Jesse W. Wulf and World War II veteran Ed Rawley who harvested a five point bull Sunday evening. Rawley adapted his rifles to suit his skill as a user and marksman.

Hunts Across Utah Open With Elk Control Drive

The schedule lists hunts including East Nebo elk control starting August 14, Manti Mountain September into October, Brown's Park experiential deer hunt mid September, and a concurrent elk and antelope hunt in the same area. The state grouse hunt runs September 20 to October 1 with special permits, plus deer hunts in Saile Mountain units from October 14 and Bik Ridge starting the same day.
