Ellen Miller, a sophomore with titian hair, crowned Powder Puff queen at Parowan High School Friday night. Attendants Eleanor Stones, Lajuana Mickelson, and Ellen Davenport joined the celebration directed by Student Body officers and Ramettes as blue and white streamers and satin powder puff centerpieces adorned the gym. Corsages of pink and white powder puffs were sold. committees report strong success.
William Horne Lynn Lyman aged long time Parowan resident and civic and church leader died early Tuesday in Parowan after a heart ailment. Born February 19 1859 in Jarowan he served missions and held posts in the LDS Church. He was mayor of Parowan three terms and state livestock inspector among many roles. He is survived by two sons three daughters and eighteen grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Parowan East Ward Chapel with burial in City Cemetery.
Parowen Elementary School second graders dressed as Indians cowboys clowns and more marched on the lawn led by a drum major. Under Mrs Zona P Topham they performed songs rhythm drills then served punch cookies and popcorn to a crowd of students and parents.
Parowan Rams defeated Cedar Redmen 34 to 20 in a Northern Division playoff at Cedar, dominating with early scores by Clair Robinson and Clark Mitchell. Parowan leads toward a Friday showdown with Hurricane for the Region Six crown, promising a thriller for fans.
Bishop and Mrs. Gilbert Robinson and son Max saw Boyd off in Salt Lake City as he joined about 240 missionaries departing by train to Independence Missouri. He will serve in the Central States, with wife and family informed of his well being and arrival at his destination.
Ellis Orton Jr. son of Mr and Mrs Ellis Orton of Parowan left Monday night for Fort Douglas induction center for his physical examination and preliminary to a two year enlistment in the United States Army He expects to be sent to an army post for basic training then to enroll in a radio engineering school in New Jersey
Citizens in Parowan approve a $150000 hydro electric project bonds by an unusually large vote. $110000 will be revenue bonds repaid from plant revenue, $40000 is general obligation bonds taxed to city property. Bond attorney to draft, materials to be purchased, work to start after canvass. City Council to meet Monday at noon.
Mary Dawn Orton Warren married Warren A Dalton in Pioche Nevada on October 21 by Bishop Barlocker. The bride, a Parowan High School student and Ramette cheerleader, plans reception soon. groom, a Branch Agricultural College attendee and Army parachutist, farms with family. Mrs Dalton travels to Canada with daughter Caroline Johnson. Paul Adams attends funeral services in Raymond.
From Julesburg Colorado comes word of October 20 birth of Jacqueline Lee Cumming to Emerson S and Ira Mae Bentley Cumming. Grandparents Charles F Bentley and wife celebrate first granddaughter. Nell Bentley travels to Julesburg to visit. Also reports of hunters Francis Dalton of Salt Lake City visiting Parowan and deer hunting with brothers Harley Harrell and Charles. Dr and Mrs Preston Petersen hosted by relatives Lorenzo Snow and Golda Guymon. Elder Kendall Gurr in King Canyon Arizona and Elder Lloyd Guymon in Prewitt New Mexico. The group traveled by pickup to Kendall for missionary work in desolate mission areas.
Mr and Mrs Dee Demille from Provo spent the prior weekend with the Chester Hyatt family. The young couple reside in Utah County where Dee is studying at Brigham Young University.
Parowan Parente-Teachers Association leads a community effort with city and local businesses to host a free Alladin Theater Halloween show for elementary students on Saturday. Prizes drawn for attending children, aiming to curb vandalism by keeping youngsters home after the screening.

Raymond Prothero had a narrow escape when his car overturned during a week in Red Creek Canyon. Local authorities reported minor injuries and the incident is under investigation.
The Times congratulates Ray and Boyd Mitchell as Buy-Rite Grocery moves into a new swanky two story front on Main Street. The former opening is set for Monday November 1 with a twenty foot front of glass and eighty feet deep. The store adds a full line of fresh fruits and vegetables kept in first class condition by a Frigidmist unit.
The Paragonah Y L M I A Junior Class held a Rose Bouquet Program on Tuesday evening October 26 to honor their mothers. The event featured a class song a reading by Donna Robinson a piano solo by Beatrice Barton and a vocal by Gaythi Lamoreaux with Rose Mary Robinson. Roses were placed in a vase and presented to U S MIA president Mrs Reene Lund before refreshments. Members listed include Audrey Dunston Anna May Dunston Javine Smith Beatrice Barton Jean Rebb Wanda Hunt Donna Robinson Rosemary Robinson and Gaytha Lamoreaux with leaders Mrs Annie Talbot and Mrs Nora Lund. All mothers attended except Mrs Ivan Jones who was away in Panguitch.
