Family Life Institute Held at University of Utah

Emily Life Augusta Adams, president of local Teachers' Association, attended the Family Life Institute at the University of Utah. Sponsored by the U extension division, representatives from communities in the state participated. The institute follows last May's Kite House Conference studying family relations and life. Delegates will gather insights for their communities.

Parowan Mothers Prepare Music for Quarterly Conference

Relief society mothers from Parowan and nearby wards rehearse under Mrs Mary O Topham with Mrs Alice Haycock at piano for the Par- Stake Quarterly Conference on November 14. The chorus will perform four numbers including Hold My Hand Beside Still Waters God of All and Pilgrim Chorus with final practices scheduled Sunday and Friday evenings at 7 30 in the East Ward Chapel.

Parowan High School officials traveled to Kanab for Region Six dinner conference with officers from Millard Beaver Iron Washington and Kane counties. Principal A C Hatch led the group with Orland Evans as president Nils Bayles as vice president Marlene Mickelacy as yearbook editor and Joyce Guymon as amusements manager.

Emma Jane Yardley 74 died November 27 1948 at 9 am at her daughter Jane Walbeck home in Beaver Born July 6 1874 in Paragonah daughter of John R Robinson and Emma Schoffield Robinson Married Daniel Alfred Yardley January 1 1895 They farmed and raised stock in Beaver Mr Yardley predeceased her She was active in the Mormon church a black teacher and quilting committee chairwoman Former secretary of the Sunday School in Manderfield Beaver County Member of the American Legion Auxiliary Survived by eight children Alvin Waldo Ellis John R and William R Yardley and Mrs Verda Heffser Continued on page five.

Last Rites Held For William H. Lyman

Funeral services for William H. Lyman a prominent Southern Utah church and civic worker were held in Parowan East Ward Chapel. Speakers included Stake President W Clair Rowley and Bishop Jesse W Guyman with benediction by nephew Leo Lyman. Interment followed at Parowan City cemetery with grave dedication by Wm. C. Mitchell.

Mr and Mrs Grant Hansen and their children visited Parowan with Mrs Augusta Adams family. Mrs Garry Bentley underwent emergency appendectomy in the county hospital and is recovering well. Luella A Dalton returned from Raymond Alberta after attending Patriarch Orrin Snow's funeral and plans to winter in St George. Silas Orton came back from two weeks in California Nevada and Boulder City. Grace Elaine Guymon, BYU junior, had an appendectomy and remains seriously ill with her parents en route to Provo.

Stake Conference Set for Nov 13 and 14 in Parowan

American Legion To Sponsor Oratorical Contest

The American Legion Post No. 70 will sponsor the Armistice Day Oratorical contest at 11 a.m. on Thursday November 11 in the High School Auditorium with a medal for the winner. Ward Robb Injured Eye While pheasant hunting

Ward Robb of Cedar City son of Mr and Mrs Walter Robb of Paragonah was shot in the eye and shoulder while pheasant hunting near Cedr Wiley. Treated in Char City then moved to Provo for eye specialist care with wife Joan and Dr Reed Frsworth. His eye may be saved. brother James Robb and others accompanied.

Paragonah Man Severely Beaten By Two Men

Ephraim Dailey, 61, of Paragonah, was severely beaten over the head with a bottle at his service station about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday while serving two male customers. He was taken to Iron County Hospital with a lacerated head and possible additional injuries. J Lowe Barton of the Utah State Highway Patrol reported the incident as he witnessed neighbors nearby.

Newcomers announce first grandchild in Salt Lake City

Mr and Mrs Carl Crawford welcome their first grandchild a girl born at Salt Lake City Hospital. Leona and Ruth E Halton celebrate as proud grandparents from Salt Lake. Paternal grandparents John Trace of Salt Lake and Dan Crawford of Parowan also share joy. Mrs Crawford travels to Salt Lake to help after birth. Another birth occurs for Robert Austin Miller and Florence Robb of Paragonah.

Parowan High Students Serve City Officials For A Day

Parowan High School students held 24 hour city offices led by Carlyle Johnson who became Mayor for a day after defeating Orland Evane in the recent student election. Other officers included Niles Bayles and Gene Denson as councilmen, Blanche Adams as treasurer, Joyce Guyman as recorder, and Delmar Gurr as justice of the peace. The group swore in Clark Mitchell as city marshal and deputies. They conducted traffic enforcement, cleaned up vandalism, and returned fines totaling 15 dollars to the F F A club for its Kansas City trip. Mayor Lyman praised the effort and will publicly thank the volunteers at a student assembly.

J Bracken Lee Wins Utah Gubernatorial Position

J Bracken Lee, Republican, defeated Gov Herbert Maw in Utah’s gubernatorial race by a wide margin. Unofficial totals show Lee with about 25,000 votes while Democrats won most other state offices. Iron County results highlighted regional GOP strength amid a record vote total.

The local Chamber of Commerce plans its annual election banquet for Wednesday November 10. All interested men are urged to bring their wives to attend this civic event.
