Iron County voters will face a busy ballot on election day with choices for regular county offices and additional issues. The lengthy ballot requires careful consideration of candidates and measures appearing in the polling section.
Parowan Stake announces the Stake Quarterly Conference will be held Saturday and Sunday November 13 and 14. Clair Rowley, Stake President, says a special meeting for Elders and Senior Aaronic Priesthood members and wives is set for Saturday evening at the First Second Ward Chapel. Leadership meetings precede at 6:30 pm. General sessions occur at 10:30 am and 2 pm Sunday with the Stake MIA in charge of a Sunday evening service.
In Indian Peaks near Pine Valley Mackelprang and others chased a large female cougar flushed from oak thickets. The hunter killed the cougar as it moved over ledges. two kittens were recovered but perished in the cold. The cougar, measured at feet in length, attracted attention at Ken Jensen Service station. It was sold to a California hunter for mounting. Mrs Bentley followed with a three point buck, her fourth venison of the year.
Parowan High School schedules the three act comedy Brother Goose for November 4 and 5. Mrs. Max Henrikson, faculty director, says curtain is 7 30 p m. Thursday is for elementary children at Parowan School Auditorium. Friday for the public. The play follows an older brother trying to keep his orphaned siblings together at home. Parowan High School welcomes two new faculty members Miss Phyllis Hall and Miss Mary Joy Justesen. Miss Hall, a Springville native and BYU graduate, will teach Home Economics and engage with students and parents to discuss department projects and home economics issues.
Miss Justesen a Third Grade teacher at Parowan Elementary comes from Spring City San Pete County. She attended Snow College Ephriam two years joining Pep Band Ladies Glee Club Gold Key Future Teachers of America Secr of FTA Chapter. She earned a degree at Brigham Young University last Spring affiliated with Lambda Delta Sigma and Sigma Delta. The two young ladies have lived together since arriving in Parowan and plan to move into an Ace Motel apartment next week.
Grant W Stevens and Mrs Stevens of Fort Riley Kansas are guests of Stevens brother in Parowan. Grant helped bag venison during the deer hunt. Pvt Kenneth Topham spends week in Parowan after delaying en route to Fort McClellan Alabama from Fort Ord Calif. He was met by his parents at Las Vegas airport and is the only member of his company with such an assignment. He will leave soon to continue to the deep South by air.
About 200 women volunteer leaders from all counties will gather in Logan November 1 through 4 for a leadership school for women run by the Utah State Agricultural College Extension Service. Emma Nielsen notes five Iron County leaders will attend. Virginia Dunton of Parowan and Elia Felstead of Parowan are named among those from this county.
Music teacher LaNoir Asay at Parowan High invites donations of violins and similar string instruments to reestablish a school orchestra. The goal is to form a small string group this year and build toward a larger ensemble in the future.

Florene Richardson of Enoch won the State 4-4 Club Safety Contest and earns a trip to the National GT Club Congress in Chicago. Her safety work included removing stop signs at a crossing to fix a hazard, surveying farm dangers, and promoting safety in school assemblies.

The PTS Music Department calls a meeting on Wednesday November 4 for all parents of students in Junner and Senior bands and those interested in beginning band. The aim is reorganization and better cooperation between the music department and parents to address personal problems and improve the department.
Mr and Mrs Benson Hay cock and sons Donald and Scotty hurried to the State Capitol City early last week. Will L Adams returned from the St George Temple to join the first days of the annual deer hunt with sons Adrian Eldon Earl and wives accompanying. Kent Ward visited Clair Ward in this city en route north from a Washington County business trip. Former locals plan a Parowan hunting season return with Berdell Mary Lou Bentley and family from Salt Lake City. Lyman celebrate 28th wedding anniversary with turkey dinner. Visiting in Southern Utah last week they stayed with Earl C Mitchells and met Elder Clark Mitchell who helped convert them to the LDS Church and officiated baptism in Canada. The trip included visits to Bryce Canyon and Cedar City with Paul Orton and family and the Twenty Ortons in Parowan. Milford Bishop A Hills Orton was mentioned.
Clayton Lyman Barton of Paragonah died instantly when a stray bullet struck him while a deer hunt in the Paragonah area turned tragic. The accident occurred as a hunter attempted to shoot a second deer. deputies, a doctor, and the sheriff investigated. Barton, 26, served in World War I and was a driver for Garrett Truck Lines. He is survived by his widow Dorotha Sorenson and three sons, plus parents and several siblings. The family requests no further inquiry and thanks responders for their assistance.
Mrs. Mary Lyvittian of Parowan Utah is named an enumerator for the 1954 Census of Agriculture. She will canvass Iron County farms, interview operators, and collect farm operation data while working eight hours daily and possibly evening hours. Training begins November 14 with four days of instruction before enumeration starts November 8, 1954, and may last three to four weeks.
The Second Ward Relief Society announces next Tuesday's meeting schedule with visiting teachers at 1:30 p.m. and a theology listen session at an unspecified time. All ladies are invited to attend.
Parowan Rams beat Beaver 20 to 19 in a thriller under coach Decker. Jim Burt scored the first touchdown, and Don Stubbs returned from injury to add two late scores including a 65 yard run. Beaver drove late but a blocked extra point and late fumble secured the win for Parowan.
