Rites Held For Esther Robb

Funeral services for Mrs. Esther Robb were held at Panama Ward Chapel on October 22 under Bishop Gilbert Rob. The choir performed Sometime I Understand and That Wonderful One. Edward Barton sang That Beautiful of Mine, Hazel Jean Yenport played Lay My Beneath a Rose. Pallbearers included Alden Robb Kent Robb Albert Jones and Orton Robb. prayer was offered at the cemetery by S. Rabbb. Continued on Page Five.

Forse And Rider Hunt Deer With Unique Snare Method

Hank Lyman and brother Rey chase a buck near The Pass north of town. Hank lassos the deer around the neck, then uses a side-turned rope to snag and snub the animal to a tree. The deer is killed by throat cut as the riders observe this unusual hunting method.

Adult Education Course Offers Class In Child Guidance

A nine session adult education course titled Know Your Child will teach child guidance to parents in Parowan and Paragonah. Dr. Larson of the State Department of Education will instruct with help from the Iron County District and local PTA.

Mrs. Alice Bolton to be buried in Parowan

Funeral services for Mrs. Alice Orton Bolton are set for Monday at 2:00 p m in the Parowan East Ward Chapel. Friends may call at the home of Mrs. Nellie Green from 10 a m Monday for the services. Bolton, formerly of Parowan, died Thursday in North Hollywood California from a chronic heart ailment. Burial will be in Parowan Cemetery.

Fire Causes Slight Damage at New Home

A fire threatened the Sart Mortensen home last Friday evening but was extinguished by local volunteers with minimal damage to the house and furnishings. Smoke traced to a wooden framework around a stove pipe hole in the fireplace chimney, insulated with asbestos pilaster. Neighbors and family thanked responders for their timely help.

Mercer Family Moves to Utah Home Base

Lieut Col James A Mercer Mrs Mercer and three children arrived in Parowan for a short visit with the John S Dalton family. The family, formerly of Parowan and now residing in Washington DC, will settle in Ogden as their future home after his transfer to the Utah General Depot. They traveled via the southern route stopping with relatives in Louisiana and Texas and visiting Quarlsbad Caverns in New Mexico. Norma Mercer’s health is improved in the mountains. The officer joined his father in law on a hunting trip soon after arrival.

Last Rites Held For Richard J. Lloyd

Funeral services for Richard J. Lloyd who died at his Parowan home last Thursday morning of a chronic heart ailment were conducted Saturday in the Parowan West Ward Chapel by Bishop W Leonard Evans. The service featured several musical numbers and prayers with relatives from Panguitch Hawthorne and Parowan in attendance. The grave was dedicated by Pres R Taylor Miller. Pallbearers were three grandsons and three nephews.

Cadet Freeman Pendleton of West Point New York has an upper quartile class grade average in a class of 600 at the United States Military Academy West Point. Pendleton earned his appointment in May 1948 through Congressman Walter K Granger after graduating from Parowan High School and spending two years at the University of Utah.

New Arrivals at County Hospital Christenings and Births

The Howard Deckers welcomed a boy weighing 5 lbs 12 oz and a girl at an additional 5% lbs while their three other sons stay with grandparents Mr and Mrs Victor Decker. In Ogden a 7 lb 11 oz boy arrived on the 25th to Mr and Mrs Frazure Mitchell. Grandparents Mr and Mrs John S Mitchell of Parcwan received the news.

PHS Band Elementary School Parade Monday

About 200 elementary students in Halloween costumes, led by the High School Band, will parade on Main Street Monday at 1 00 pM in full uniform from the school corner to East Ward corner and back. Afterward, younger students will dance in the gym while High Schoolers resume classes.

Alice Prothero Mathews died in her Cedar City home on Monday from a chronic heart ailment. She had visited Paragonah that Sunday and seemed well. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 pm in Paragonah Ward Chapel with Bishop Gilbert Robinson officiating. Teeming with tributes, the service featured multiple musical numbers and a life sketch by Mrs. Ruth Boardman.

Walter W Stubbs Undergoes Eye Surgery in California

Relatives in Parowan report Walter W Stubbs, wintering in California, underwent removal of four eyelashes from an eye by a Long Beach surgeon. He endured severe pain as the growth attached to the eyeball. The physician expressed confidence the operation was successful and expected bandages to come off in about three months with sight restored. He is staying with his sister and brother in law, Mr and Mrs Joe Levy, 5802 East Rose Ave Belleflower, and welcomes messages from friends.

Old Time Square Dancing To Be Resumed

Old Time Square Dancing to be resumed as winter entertainment returns. The square dancing group plans a series of dances with officers Almon Hills Orton as president Giaude Arterefico Zora Topham as secretary. Paragonah's oldest resident Annie M. Topham celebrated her 87th birthday on Friday October 21. Relatives from Beaver Parowan and Paragonah visited. Born October 12 1862 in West Jordan she and Thomas A. Topham wed in St George Temple in 1887 and she taught school and led Relief Society activities.
