Parowan High School will host a Back to School Night on November 9 under the Parowan High PTA sponsorship. The event begins at 7:30 with a general assembly and student registration, followed by classroom visits to review courses, aims, and daily instruction for six periods. Parents, especially fathers, are urged to attend and meet teachers.
Parowan Republican Party announced a slate for the November city council race at a courthouse convention last Thursday. Nominees are Arlo S. Holyoak Arnold C. Gurr and Dee Robinson incumbent. E Ray Lyman declined. Final ballot left Holyoak Arnold Gurr and Dee Robinson to oppose Democrats J W Moore F C Van Buren and Gordon Whitney. Committee chairs and vacancy committee named.
John S. Christensen 72 of Cedar City dies of a heart attack. Bank of Southern Utah president and prominent civic figure, born December 29, 1882 in American Fork, educated at BYU and USAC Logan, long-time educator, coach, and banking executive who helped merge with First Security. Survived by widow, two sons, three sisters, five grandchildren. Funeral planned at Cedar Third Ward Chapel. Marietta Stevens returns home from California to visit parents Frank Stevens and family.
Parowan Times commemorates its fortieth anniversary tracing founders and early staff from 1915. A celebration included speeches by city officials, a press run and auction of the first issue, which sold for 31 dollars to city representative Pendleton as residents planned a dance that evening.
Last week the Times published a town questionnaire titled Do You Dare To Rate Your Town and asked for responses to Bryce Adams. Only two or three have been returned so far. The note urges civic interest and asks readers to submit the form to inform local groups what the town needs and wants.
Deer hunting in the southern part of the state is rated only fair by most hunters. Expected to be a larger total kill this year despite a lower percentage, due to more hunters and non residents. A Wednesday night storm in high ranges is likely to drive deer to lower elevations, with game warden S. M. Clark noting a definite downward movement.
Clair and Madge Stevens led a large deer hunt party Saturday to Monday, returning with ten deer. Visitors include LaMar and Joyce Naegle of Nevada with Joyce’s family, and numerous relatives in town. Merna Halterman hosted a Trousseau Tea. Merna will wed Larry Mitchell on October 29. Kent Pendleton and Marylin Pendleton moved into a new home. Families from Pioche, Panguitch, Bell, and Camp Hanford visit relatives here, with extended gatherings and travel.
Parowan Stake Conference will be held November 12 and 13 under Stake President W Clair Rowley. Priesthood leaders and wives are urged to attend the 8 p m Saturday session at the First Second Ward Chapel, with a 6 30 priesthood leadership meeting beforehand. General sessions Sunday begin at 10 a m and 2 p m, with an MIA session at 7 30 p m in the Parowan Third Ward Chapel.
Tony Dietz of Downing California was found safe after spending Saturday night in the Jensen Hole country south west of Brian Head Peak. A five hour search by Iron County Sheriff's Office and Game Wardens located him in a deep canyon after he built a fire and stayed with it. Deputies Arch Benson Jack Miller Ross Hoyt and Sheriff’s Deputy Sherrif Miller directed the operation with District Game Warden S M Clark.
A meeting of civic school and church leaders in the Court House formed a coordinated calendar of upcoming events for the next several months. The Times will publish the weekly list covering current and early future dates to prevent conflicts. Groups without scheduled events are urged to check the calendar or contact the Times to be added.
Prices for hogs and wool fluctuate as government steps in with an $85 million pork and lard purchase program to steady markets. Utah’s 1955 signals law requires trucks to have proper front and rear signal devices with specified spacing and illumination by January 1, 1956, amid broader farm economic data and potato storage guidance.
The DUP district convention for Iron Beaver and Washington Counties will be held in Parowan at the Old Rock Church on November at 10 am with a noon luncheon.
