Civic Groups Name Officers For Highway 91 Association
Ray Knell of Cedar City was named temporary chairman of a newly formed Highway 91 Association at a Cedar City meeting held in the Hotel El Escalante. Local leaders from Nephi to St. George formed the group to stimulate tourist travel on Highway 91, especially the southern end. Officers named to serve with Knell included A. W. Munday as vice president and Ralph B. Platt as secretary, with a board of Lee Bailey E. J. King Dee Stapleyman and Bert Milne. The delegation plans to attend the Highway 30 association meeting in Rawlins Wyoming later this month, with expenses borne by the nine district cities. A Las Vegas representative was invited but unavailable due to prior commitments.

Max Dalley Promoted To Lt Colonel In Utah Guard
Max S Dalley has been promoted to Lt Colonel by the adjutant general. The Cedar City resident and Parowan High School principal served with the 213th Field Artillery Battalion in Korea. He commanded Cedar City unit after his brother Col J Frank Dalley became Utah National Guard chief. He fought in WW2 with the 223 F A Battalion under Patton and Bradley, later rejoin ing the National Guard. He will command units in Fillmore and Richfield.

Funeral Services Held For William J. Gurr
Funeral services were held Friday in Parowan Third Ward Chapel for William J. Gurr who died at home from a heart attack. Directed by Bishop Howard M. Adams, a double mixed quartet performed several numbers with Mary Lyman on piano. Speakers included Howard Joseph and Bishop Adams, with prayers by Jess Guyman and Chester Hyatt. Cemetery rites were led by Stake President W. Clair Rowley. Pallbearers were Ivan Orton and his sons Floyd and Kenneth, Rosco Booth, Hyatt Bentley, and Stanley Gurr.

Piute Indian Killed In Early Morning Police Battle
Henry Zuniga a Piute Indian was killed in a Cedar City gun battle with Officers Paul Woodard and Kent Hoyte early Tuesday. A son said Zuniga killed his mother, fired at others, and the coroner ruled justifiable homicide after the incident in a village northeast of Cedar City.
