County Victory Loan Drive Announced and Quotas Set
County officials announced the Victory Loan Drive with a county quota of 297 850 dollars to be raised by November through public funds and corporate purchases. Iron County is aimed to buy 224 850 dollars in bonds with 41 500 from individuals and 58 000 from corporations, following a statewide meeting in Salt Lake City where George Albert Smith urged a strong national push. Plans to allocate community quotas and appoint drive chairmen will be set next week as the drive begins October 29.

West Iron County to Get Electric Power This Winter
Engineers from Rocky Mountain Engineering of Denver and Wasatch Electric of Salt Lake City arrived in Iron County as bidders on a project to build sixty six miles of electric line. The Escalante Valley Electric Association plans the REA powered system serving Modena New Castle and all farms north of the Levy ranch. Poles and materials have begun to arrive and staking of lines starts this weekend with aims to finish before year end before winter snows hinder work.

Posthumous Distinguished Flying Cross for Lt Lenord Hulet
The Distinguished Flying Cross was posthumously awarded to Second Lieutenant Lenord E Hulet, son of Mr and Mrs R Wallace Hulet, for heroic glider piloting during the Rhine crossing in March 1945. Citations praise his courage as he steered a wounded craft to a safe landing at great personal risk, and note his earlier meritorious service in European Theater operations during 1943 to 1944. His death occurred in action during the landing.
