City appoints Hendrickson as Marshall amid vacancy
Hendrickson, longtime ice man, has been appointed City Marshal by May W. Scott Mitchell. He assumes duties after the city had been without a marshal since Ancil Adams left. Previous attempts to fill the post with in-service men gave hope for a capable successor.

Electrification work begins in Galante Valley area
Five work crews started last Monday on the Galante Valley Electric Assn project near New Castle. Rocky Mountain Engineering Co. of Denver and engineers report staking nine members with power lines for the Southern Utah company. Ernest Porter, chief engineer, notes fifteen pole lines staked and material en route as contractors prepare to start construction after enough poles, pads and wire arrive. Local residents urged to attend the Tuesday afternoon services announced by Bishop Guy for families with children.

Tragic death of three year old Verla Blake at St George
Verla Blake daughter of Mr and Mrs LaVer Blake of St George died at 7 Thursday morning from an unknown malady after less than a day of illness. Stricken at play she had convulsions and died after hours of suffering. Graveside services were held at St George cemetery Friday at 2 pm with the ward bishop in charge. She is survived by parents three brothers three grandparents and a great grandmother. Relatives attended from Parowan and Beaver.

Armistice Day Set For Monday November 12
Governor H B Maw issues proclamation announcing Armistice Day observances will move to Monday November 12 this year instead of Sunday the 11th. Deer Hunt Proves Discouraging For Many Hunters
As the annual deer hunt nears its end, many hunters report poor results with several groups in the Big Hill Cappp Valley Summit Dry Lakes Navajo Marsden ranch areas finding few deer. California visitors hunt hard but overall deer numbers appear to have declined since 1939-40, while local fatalities mainly come from falls rather than gunshots. Potato Harvest Nears Finish in Parowan Valley
Weather remains favorable as potato harvest nears completion in Parowan valley. Large acreages yield high quality number ones and bakers with storage pits filling to 40 capacity for shipping to Cedar City. Harvesting continues with several named growers finished and others still at work, while carrots for the Utah Celery Coop near completion except for a few acres damaged by storms. Local residents note previously harvested crops brought fair returns and a Marine officer expects release after November 1.

Mickelson Announces Marriage Of Daughter Elsie Bergle
Mr and Mrs George Mickelson announce the marriage of their daughter Elsie Bergle to DeWaine Ahlstrom. The ceremony occurred Friday at 9 am at the Mickelson home performed by Bishop Jess Guy of East Ward. The couple plans a brief honeymoon in Salt Lake City and then reside in Cedar City. Elsie is a Cedar City High School graduate and has worked as a stenographer and at the State Reid Commission office. DeWaine is the son of Byron and Mrs Ahlstrom of Redondo Beach California and recently completed two years overseas in the India Burma theater.

Times Starts Into 31st Year With This Issue
The Parowan Times marks its thirty first year of publication as noted on the front page volume. The first issue appeared thirty years ago in a frame building near the Gurr home and Conoco station with Alexi H. Rollo as the initial publisher and editor. Subsequent editors include W. Warner Mitchell and Robert B. Mitchell following Warner’s death in 1940. The current editor took over on May 1, 1942.
