War Department plans for integration of Reserve Army officers
The War Department announced that Regular Army commission applicants from the first integration program are under consideration for extra vacancies created by Congressional action increasing the Regular Army Officer Corps from 25 000 to 50 000. Clair Lister Has Close Call In Coal Truck Crash
Claude Lister and Claude Orton were in a coal truck returning from mines when a potato truck halted at a stop sign. Lister swerved to avoid a collision, rolled the truck into a bar pit, but all occupants escaped serious injury. Witnesses say Lister traveled about 35 mph.

Miss Cherie Marie Orton wed Miles Waters of Beaver City on October 10 at the bride’s home with Bishop Jesse C. Guyuson officiating. The couple reside in Cedar City where Waters works for Lunt Motor. A baby boy was born to Mr and Mrs Harold Rogerson on October 11, 1944. Mrs Rogerson is formerly of Parowan. The O. N. O. Sewing Club met October 10 with ten ladies, enjoyed crafts and refreshments. Mrs Hildreth Patton will host October 27. S. A. Halterman and family visited Panquitch, meeting Bertha Sue and Adrian Dalton from Flagstaff. Adrian attends school at Flagstaff. Bertha Sue works at the Telephone Office. Mrs Richard Cook of Idaho Falls visited with sisters Libbie Heap and Lucille Mackelprang. Mrs Cook brought her mother Mrs Gilger to celebrate her 80th birthday with her daughters present. Mrs Gilger’s son Hugh lives in Parowan but works in California. Norma Lee Mobreer celebrated a Saturday birthday with eight friends at a matinee party and games at Norma Lee’s home. Elvin Gurr from California deer hunting visited. Mrs Hazel Adams Sk inner (Parowan) attended Homer Adams’ reception in Parowan after a Salt Lake weekend trip. Mrs Lena Benson, recovering from cataract surgery in the L. D. S. hospital, is home and recovering well.
