Parowan Airport to Be Licenced and Expanded

Parowan prepares for airport licensing after a test landing by Cedar City pilot Richard Knight. The field surface will be refined, a wind sack installed, and Parowan Flying Club plans student planes and instructors led by Richard Batt. State officials will review after a second inspection, with expected licensing by week’s end and increased local air traffic participation.

Barkley to Speak at Salt Lake City Democratic Rally

Funeral Rites Held For Bennie Openshaw At West Ward Chapel

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at the West Ward Chapel for Bennie Openshaw with Bishop Leonard Evans presiding. The service included singing, prayers, and remarks by Doyle Robinson and Bishops Topham and Evins. Musical selections featured violin and vocal solos by Ivan Decker, Marion Devker, Verele Taylor, and others, with graveside honors performed by Thomas A. Robinson.

The Centennial Beautification Committee in Parowan names captains for each district to lead cleanup, paint, and beautification efforts. Area leaders include Thomas Bennett, John Rasmussen, James C. Robinson, Blain Matheson, Rulon Lyman, Charles Bentley, and others, directing blocks from Ist to Breakwater and toward city limits. The drive aims to reduce untidiness, strengthen community spirit, and make Parowan a more attractive place to live.

Local Washington couple celebrate daughter’s marriage

Mrs. Aaron C. Jensen of Dishman announces Marilynn Jewell’s marriage to Normalie Mortensen on October 19, 1946 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Dishman. The couple honeymoon in Yellowstone and will visit Parowan next. Mortensen is son of Mr. and Mrs. Bart Mortensen.

Hinckley game prompts high school team travels

The high school team and Coach Adams motored to Hinckley to play the year’s most intricate game. Mary Susan Benson celebrated her 8th birthday on October 16 with 20 friends and neighbors. Herneice Patricia Lloyd will celebrate her 8th birthday on October 26 and they plan baptism and christening the same day as their grandfather S A Matheson officiating.

A farewell social is planned Wednesday to honor Bernell Evans as he departs for the French Mission. He will enter the Mission home in Salt Lake on November 4.

Parowan C of C plans citywide canvas for bank subscriptions

At the Parowan Chamber of Commerce meeting on October 2 the group voted to urge the Hank Committee to canvass the entire city for stock pledges to form a new bank. Districts were set, canvassers assigned to Paragonah and Summit, and canvassing will occur Thursday and Friday with a Saturday meeting to tally pledges. If total pledges reach or exceed 37,500 the state banking process begins. if not, the effort ends. A mass meeting October 31 will address tax amendments before the November 5 vote. The school soil test field project was also discussed, led by Principal A C Hatch with team members listed.

Church News East Ward Mia To Give Sunday Program

The East Ward Mutual Improvement Association and the Bishopric announce a Sunday Sacrament meeting program on October 27 at 2 PM. The MITA will present several musical numbers and a talk on Brigham Young’s life and teachings, inviting all ward members to attend.

The West Ward Relief Society announces a social next Tuesday October 29 in the West Ward Relief Society Rooms honoring brides and young mothers.
