Lenoir Asay takes over the Parowan High School music department after Wilford Young left just before the new term. Native of Delta Utah, he studied at BYU and earned a master’s in Nice France, with post graduate work in Paris Florence and Vienna. He arrives from Europe where he was pursuing graduate music studies and an active concert performer.

Funeral services for Oken sbury Salisbury 79 were held Monday at Neal S Magleby Mortuary Richfield He was born October 30 1873 son of Oke and Catherine Iverson Salisbury He married Fanie Taylor of Parowan October 19 1899 later solemnized in Manti Temple She died February 29 1912 A farmer for most of his life he had been an ordinance worker in the St George Temple for seven years He is survived by one son Bert Salisbury Richfield two daughters Mrs Florence Benson Parowan and Mrs Henry Gladys Munson Santa Barbara California ten grandchildren eleven great grandchildren two brothers and one sister Mrs Benson was accompanied to Richfield by her sister Mrs Munson and aunt Miss Eva Taylor of Richfield

Macir Karabiyik a 25 year old irrigation specialist from Konya Turkey arrives in Parowan Utah living with the Mitchells. He is one of 60 Turkish students studying farming methods in the United States. He aids with land surveying and farm work while learning English and hopes to tour the country before returning to Europe. He enjoys Mrs Mitchells cooking and marshmallows roasted by the fire.

Local FFA Boys Attend National Confab in Kansas City
Utah FFA members Dale Robinson Paragonah Stuart Adams and Rey Orton Parowan represented their high school chapter at the National Convention in Kansas City Missouri this week. Meetings ran Monday through Thursday with plans to attend the Royal National Live Stock Show. Afterward the group toured Omaha Nebraska with Boys Town sightseeing and a UP Railroad banquet before boarding the City of Los Angeles streamliner for the rail home.

Wilford E Benson son of William R Benson Parowan recently returned to Schwaebisch Gmuend Germany from a 10 day field exercise near the Czechoslovakian border with the 74th Armored Field Artillery Battalion. He is operations sergeant of the Headquarters Battery and entered the Army in 1948. He has been overseas since March 1953 and his wife Elaine accompanies him in Germany.

Owen J. Holyoak son of Mr and Mrs Glen S Holyoak of Parowan has been advanced to Sergeant in the United States Army. He now serves in Korea about 25 miles north of Seoul after 11 months there. The Parowan Elementary community showcased school community spirit as parents realigned and painted the classroom furniture during a WEA convention break. Iron County schools will join a national Special School Milk Program aimed at increasing whole milk consumption in non profit elementary and high schools. Schools will be reimbursed by the government for milk consumed above March and April 1954 base, with 4 cents subsidy per half pint sold. Milk available during snack hour at elementary schools and as a refresher for high school students before buses, while regular noon lunches continue at 20 cents.

Former Parowan Resident Carl Hoyle Dies in Seattle
Carlisle Benson Hoyle a former Parowan resident died in a Seattle hospital from a cerebral hemorrhage. Funeral services were set for Friday at 2 pm in Parowan Third Ward Chapel with burial in Parowan City Cemetery. He was born November 2, 1695 in Parowan and lived in Klammath Falls Portland Spokane and Seattle where he worked as a grocery buyer and store manager. He was a member of the LDS Church and survived by his widow a son and a daughter and two half siblings.

The 84th birthday of Mrs. Belle Connell Matheson a longtime Parowan resident was observed October 2 in her Rest Home apartment with close friends and relatives. Attendees included Mrs. Alice H Merman Mrs. Clara Benson Neta Benson and others from Parowan Milford and a line of family. Matheson born October 2 1870 grew up in Parowan and served as librarian and LDS Church worker. She married Simon A Matheson February 3 1928. he died October 2 1947.
