Agricultural Conservation Program to Start This Week

Iron County farmers and ranchers were told by the county committee chair that 1061 Agricultural Conservation funds are obligated this year to support soil and water conservation practices this fall. All eligible farmers should contact the county committee to arrange needed assistance and participate in the farmer government partnership to safeguard resources and national welfare.

Funeral train carries Davenport kin to East Lake City

Relatives of Maude Davenport Mitchell journeyed to East Lake City for her and husband’s funeral after a midwestern crash. Among those attending were Mrs. Lewis Davenport and Mrs. Douglas Davenport, with other kin and friends joining from local areas. Continuous travel spanned weeks, including medical updates on Anita McBride and notices of service deployments and local baptisms.

Kentucky L D S Lady To Spend Winter Here

Mr and Mrs Jesse Guyman travel to Ashland Kentucky to bring Mrs Belle Ferguson west for the winter. Ferguson and spouse supported LDS missions. the widow is arthritic and nearly blind seeking refuge among L D S people. Additional notes recount Tophams visit Salt Lake Ogden and a party for Maxine Barton.

Sam Whitney Receives Letter Of Appreciation

A club writes September 30 1950 to thank Sam Whitney for organizing a September 25 1960 outing at Five Mile Parowan Canyon. They praise the grounds and Whitney work with the U S Forest Service keeping the recreation spot well maintained and commend its credit to Parowan’s food people. They express intention to return.

Orton Marries Beaver Lady in Beaver Ceremony

Silas T. Orton and Amelia Pace wed October 6 in Beaver with Bishop Allen C. Reynolds officiating. The couple, well known in Parowan, plan a two week visit with families in Los Angeles before settling back in Parowan where Orton has long lived.

Mr and Mrs Lucius Richards Honored At Reception

Mr and Mrs Lucius Dean Richards married October 6 in the St George Temple were honored at a reception at the bridegroom’s parents’ home. Guests enjoyed fall decor, a lace table with a wedding cake, and piano music by Florence Holt. The couple will reside in Cedar City with out of town guests listed from Junction and Cedar City.

Armistice Day Planned by American Legion and Auxiliary

Parowan's Armistice Day events will be directed by American Legion Post Commander Eugene M. Orton and the Auxiliary. A forenoon program includes an oratorical contest for Parowan High School students with a medal prize. Afternoon sports feature matched chariot and calf roping races at the city race track. An evening grand ball will be held in the school gymnasium under Legion supervision.

Parowan Community Activity Calendar Outlined

A detailed outline of Parowan events for the coming months was prepared at a Seminary meeting. Changes must be coordinated through the High School principal and an official calendar kept on file. The list covers October events through November 1 1950 including veterans meetings ballgames dances and scout activities. The remaining schedule will be released next week.

Parowan Residents Celebrate Double Parowan Weddings

Mrs Bert Feldstead learned of the marriages of her sister LaRee to Jay Lee of Payson in Springville and her brother Boyd to his bride in Provo. LaRee has lived in Hatch with Carl and family. The Lees plan a Springville home. Boyd and his wife were honored at a Provo reception and later honeymooned in the region before settling temporarily in Provo.

Parowan High School Organizes Fire Safety Plan

Under the Student Council, Parowan High School implements a fire safety program with a student from each grade assigned to duties. G Duayne Van Ausdal grounds the effort as fire chief, class wardens lock windows on alarm, conduct roll calls, and direct evacuation to designated spots with monthly drills.

Safety Lecture At Primary Union Meet In West Ward Chapel

Sgt Loren Squires of the State Highway Patrol will give a safety lecture at the Stake Primary Union meeting on Thursday Oct 18. Teachers from Home Builders and Trail Builder groups will attend by arrangement. Parents of attending children and members of the Primary classes are invited. The event starts at 7 30 p.m. in the West Ward Chapel. November lessons will be given in the departments.

Personal News Notes From Parowan and Kanab

Mrs. Merle Rasmussen spent a week in Kanab caring for her daughter Mrs. Burton Banks who was operated on at Kanab Hospital. Dr. Broad bent of Cedar City assisted Dr. Aiken. Banks family returned home after twelve days convalescing while Burton and three sons drove to Detroit for a new car. Burton and the boys visited Parowan before returning to Kanab where Marjorie is improving. Mrs. Julia LeFevre and her son and his wife Otho LeFevre from Panguitch attended Danny Thornton’s funeral in Parowan. Also present were Mrs. Alpine Thornton of Las Vegas and her mother Mrs. McBride of Paragonah. Mr. and Mrs. Dan Boles and daughters from Casper, Wyoming visited in Parowan with Wm. J. Lowders. Dan returns to work, Lucile and the girls stay longer.

P T A Outlines Annual Projects and Membership Drive This Week

The Par-Owan Parent Teachers Association announces its annual project Ways and Means of Improving the Health of the School Child. The plan includes health education lectures forums and dental clinics for children. A membership drive is underway with Mrs. Metta Mortensen leading, plus a house-to-house canvas. A safe Halloween and fundraisers for the National PTA building fund are also discussed, with a square dance and food sale likely. The next Parents and Teachers meeting is set for November at the school house.
