Dr. Howard Ernest Averill 68 of Price died Monday in a Price Hospital after a two week illness. Funeral services were held in Price and graveside rites conducted in Parowan with remarks by Robert L. Fenton and a blessing from John H. Pendleton. He is survived by his widow, stepchildren, and 17 grandchildren, with services directed by Price Mortuary.
Western Air Lines in Los Angeles buys a supply of Cedar City Gateway to Rainbow Land. Gustive O Larson outlines Iron County history from Old Spanish Trails to Mormon colonization and the railroad. The booklet highlights mining growth, scenic awareness, and the human side of Southern Utah. Requests pour in from out of state, with strong sales in parks and Salt Lake bookstores.
Friends in Paragonah mourn the sudden cerebral hemorrhage death of Kathreine Noyes, sister of Mrs J L Dalton. Her family from Salt Lake City and San Francisco arrived to support and prepare Grand ma Reese's house for move to Paragonah. Funeral held in Beaver with many relatives in attendance. Daniel Clinton Thornton six died from polio complications after a relapse. Born January 26 1945 he was a son of Clinton M and Katherine Adams Thornton of Parowan. Funeral services were held at West Ward Chapel with Byron C. Thornton and Joseph E. Ward speaking. Pall bearers included uncles Thane Wayne Adams Troy Thornton and Kenneth Berry.
Air ROTC at Branch Agricultural College prepares for October sixth Homecoming events. A downtown parade leads to the Homecoming game against Snow Junior College in Ephraim with the crowning of a Homecoming queen and a dance. The parade features six high school bands, BAC fraternities and sororities floats, local businesses, dignitaries’ cars, and the Chandlers drill team. The ROTC Color Guard will open the parade followed by a march through Cedar City.
Parowan faculty and partners attended a sumptuous Western style chicken dinner at the Five Mile on Monday. An informal camp fire program followed the meal with committee head Mrs. Zona Topham and members Joseph E. Ward Luetta Mortensen and Claude Adams overseeing arrangements.
Mrs Della Marsden received word of the death of her sister Maude Davenport Wood Mitchell and her husband Marlin Wood Mitchell in a Chicago traffic crash while en route to Massachusetts to visit their daughter Elaine. Eugene Davenport of Salt Lake City survived and said an inquest would be held. Bodies to be brought to Salt Lake City for funeral services. Mrs Mitchell, born March 25 1898 in Paragonah, survived by two sons six daughters ten grandchildren and several stepchildren with brothers and sisters in Parowan Paragonah Salt Lake City Panguitch and other locations.
Mr and Mrs A J Ireland of Hooks Texas left for home after visiting in Parowan as guests of Lovell and Harvey Adams. They had also visited Salt Lake City Richfield and Panguitch and Ireland lived in Panguitch about two decades. Mrs Minnie A Burton returned from Salt Lake City after attending Pearl Adams Decker s testimonial and General Conference. Glade A Smith and other Utah State Road employees attended a convention and banquet in the Hotel Newhouse. Jay Moore contractor for the new electric power house was in Salt Lake City on building material matters. Mr and Mrs Clevon Jensen of Ruth Nevada spent part of a recent vacation with relatives in Parowan. They traveled from.
Next week four day recess for local students while elementary and high school teachers attend the Uriah Educational Association convent in Salt Lake. School dismisses from Wednesday noon to Monday morning. farmers may hire students for potato harvest during the break. A meeting in Parowan aims to organize Milling and activity planning with church Auxiliary groups and local committees invited to participate.
Betty Gausle Martineau of Cedar City and Licinel Dean Richards of Parowan announce their marriage with rites set for Friday at noon in the St George LDS Temple with President Harold Snow officiating. The couple will reside in Cedar City where the groom works for Utah Construction. A reception follows Friday evening at the home of Mr and Mrs Richard Me Cowley hosted in Martineau’s honor.
Iron County Treasurer Clair Hulet reported about 250 of 800 deer permits remained unsold by Thursday noon. The sale opened with crowding at Tooele, but the event was orderly in Iron County. Mrs Pearl Russell issued the permits, with most doe permits in Parowan District sold. 115 permits went to non residents from California. permits are valid Oct 28 to Nov 7 within Parowan and Paragonah Cottonwood districts.
The outgoing officers of the East Ward Relief Society will be honored at a social tied to the group’s regular meeting on Tuesday. Present officers announce that Mrs. Bertha Mitchell and Mrs. Alice Cont will be honored.
A city crew on Wednesday installed a new fire hydrant on the west side of main street in front of the DBuy- Rite Grocery. The plan includes a drinking fountain nearby to prevent children crossing the fire lane during shows, aiding fire insurance requirements.

Dillwalden Bentley welcomes a baby boy delivered by cesarean at 6 pounds 16 ounces. Ward leads Parowan and LDS Hospital arrivals with Berite Ward born Sept 28 to the Craig Ward family. Other families include Jill Ward born Sept 28 in Moent and a Sept 8 daughter to Allen and Aiahna Heap in Parowan, with grandparents noted across several households.
