Final Rites Held for George Bettridge in Weeds
Final rites were held Wednesday afternoon in the West ward for George Bettridge 69 a resident for more than 50 years. He died last Friday after several days of illness at the county hospital. The service was conducted by Joseph of the West Ward Shop and included prayers, musical numbers and a decing prayer. Bettridge was born May 3 187? in Blackwell Derbyshire England and came to Utah in 1891 with his mother and sister. He married Ellen Lister in 1907 and had seven children three of whom survive along with grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by his widow six children two daughters in law two sons in law and other relatives. A sister Amelia Tolton also survives.

Humphfus Awarded Bronze Star For WWII Service
Captain Sam Humphfus of the United States Army earned the Bronze Star Medal for exemplary conduct while serving with the 1st Special Service Company in France Belgium and Germany during 11 July 1944 to 1945. The award citation lauds his morale-boosting efforts near combat as he supported operations in VII Corps. Entered from Texas, his wife Emily D Humphrus received the citation.

Parowan High School Rams, coached by Claude Adamis, will travel to Beaver for their first football game of the season on Wednesday afternoon. The game was moved up from Friday due to USEA convention travel. Cedar High hosts Milford and Beaver welcomes Hinckley as others play. Parowan had a bye this week. Milford also rests next Wednesday. Strength of division teams is uncertain due to coaching losses and graduation.

Two More Men Released From Military Duty
Two more servicemen have been discharged and return to civilian life. Cpl Grayson Gurr, earlier overlooked, served in the Army Air Corps as a serial gunner after more than two years training. Staff Sergeant Frank Orton, with four years in service, served in Europe as radioman for an artillery unit and earned the Silver Star last winter. Rue Dalley, Fireman First Class, returned from fourteen months in the submarine service in the Western Pacific aboard the Baya. Local draft notes show Carroll Tulis of Newcastle to be inducted next Monday, with five Cedar City men listed for pre induction exams.

Parent Teachers To Hold Daily Bag Limit Set For Pheasant Season
The Parowan Parent-Teachers Association opens its season with a 3 PM meeting at the High School auditorium and a dance in the gym Monday. Officers include Roberta Rowley as president and Florence Joseph as secretary treasurer with new board and grade representatives. A uniform daily bag limit of two pheasants is set for Utah's 1945 three day pheasant season November 3 4 and 5 across 21 counties. Quail hunting is allowed in 25 counties November 3 and 4 with several counties closed. Garfield county allows pheasant hunting November 3 only. Hunting hours are daylight with emphasis on safe shooting and upcoming area restrictions.

Obituary notes the death of William Whittier Page, born May 1 1870 in Parowan Utah, who died September 17 in Jackson after a long illness. He lived in Jackson 23 years, worked with P G E and was a police officer at Salt Springs Dam. Survived by Mary Elizabeth Page, two daughters, four sisters, eight grandchildren amid funeral at Jackson City Cemetery. Also reports John Roy Hulse convicted of involuntary manslaughter in Iron County and sentenced to a year in jail with seven months suspended. Frank Hudson convicted of simple assault with sentencing set for October 15.
