Utah Senator Arthur V. Watkins held a legislative clinic in Parowan attracting local citizens and Graff's American Problems class. He discussed future generations funding, the Presidents four point program, and current spending, warning that aiding others should not massively reduce living standards.
Miss LaJuana Orton youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs Scott Orton of this city married Wayne Stanworth in the St George Temple Friday November 15 at high noon with President Harold B Snow officiating. The couple were hosted at a reception in West Ward Relief Society rooms attended by hundreds. The bride wore a white slipper satin gown with colonial styling and lace details.
West Ward MIA presents a three act comedy Big Hearted Herbert Kalness directed by Amy Jackson. The play features Homer Adams as the domineering father in a human family drama with a large cast and a Tuesday and Monday night run for community budget season. Curtain at 8 p.m.
Parowan residents John T Rasmussen and his wife celebrate their 58th wedding anniversary with family at home. He was born October 12, 1869, in Parowan and has worked as a blacksmith and gardener. Mrs Rasmussen, born September 1, 1871, helped raise eight children and stays active in Relief Society. Parowan and Wyoming ties noted.
Funeral services for Nelson Stratton Thornton were conducted Monday at the Lindquist-Fernelius Mortuary in Salt Lake City. Bishop Abraham L. Stout led the service with opening prayer by Jesse Burnion. A quartet sang I'm a Pilgrim and a trio performed In the Garden, under accompaniment by Eleanor B. Heppler. The back page notes further remarks by George A. Mitchell.
Teenty one members of the West Ward Junior class went to St George last Saturday for baptism for 168 names. Instructors H F Bayles and Kent Marsden accompanied by Claude Adams and E J King arranged transport. The group left at 7 a.m. and after visiting the Temple they went to LaVerkin for a pool dip.
Officer of the local DUP improved quarters in the Old Rock Church basement in Parowan. They laid new rag carpet over straw to imitate early home floors and added electric wiring for heaters. Parowan city extended power lines to allow further work and plans to create a community recreational center.
Funeral services for Mrs. Cecelia Evan Benson Page who died last Thursday in Ogden were held Saturday at 1 50 pm in the West Ward Chapel. Bishop W Leonard Evans presided with mixed quartet performing Abide With Me and Flower Land. Speakers included C Warren Wimmer, Samuel J Whitney and Bishop Evan. Burial was in City Cemetery with grave dedication by T A Topham. Bearers included Errol Taylor Ralph Mitchell Sherwin Alma Benson Max Yarbrough and Albert Wimmer. Grandchildren carried flowers for the service.
Mrs Jennie Vescovi of Los Angeles was killed and five others injured in a two car crash on Highway 01 about 14 miles south of Paragonah. Survivors include Anton Vescovi, Rita B Smith, Charles Smith, Paul Smith, and Doris Nelson, with multiple serious injuries reported. Police described both drivers as dazed at the scene.
Edgar J King leads Parowan volunteers in two weeks of work to carve a ski run on the red hill east of town near Gurrs pond. They cleared brush and a tree, prepared parking, and laid plans for a tow lift and top access. A sled hill and children’s area are set, with safety devices to be studied in Alta and Brighton for guidance.
Monday at 6 00 PM the Chamber of Commerce will hold its first meeting since new officers were elected at the Court House Topics include organizing committees and plans for community projects All merchants farmers teachers and workers in the area are invited to join and contribute ideas for city betterment
Mrs. Connie Mosdell was guest of honor at a wedding shower hosted by her aunt Mrs. Anita McBride. More than forty women attended from Cedar City Milford Henrieville Parowan and other towns for games entertainment and gifts. The program included piano solos saxophone and accordion music a bride’s vocal solo readings and a small chorus. Refreshments were served and out of town relatives joined the celebration.

The 1949 50 basketball season opened with Parowan hosting Cedar and Enterprise. Cedar won 36 to 27 and Enterprise won 28 to 25. Rams show potential with strong floor play but weak field goal shooting, making 9 of 60 shots Friday.
Lillian Heap of Parowan announces the birth of a granddaughter Saturday at Iron County Hospital. Parents Theron J. Heap and wife reside in Cedar City. Two year old sister Joan will meet the new arrival soon. Mother is former Nita Maletz of Helmstedt Germany.
Mrs Roy Adams entertained YMV ASS et al at her home. Anna T Adams reviewed Richard Wright book Black Boy. Vera D Decker hosted regular meeting Thursday evening with refreshments served. time spent socializing.
