District court proceedings in Parowan Morals case

Hoyt opened a session of District court in Parowan Tuesday morning with several cases on the docket. The State versus Clif Jake, an Indian, was slated for Thursday but postponed upon agreement. jurors did not reach a verdict yet, and the court noted a possible ten year sentence with a leniency recommendation to the Board of Pardons.

First Deliveries On Power Plant Materials Made

First deliveries for Parowan's new hydro electric plant occurred last week. Clifton Halterman reports four truckloads of 18 inch 3 gauge pipe, weighing about 9000 pounds, have been unloaded near the site. The segment will be laid underground to carry water from the present plant to the new building, buried along city streets from the ay limits through Henry Heaps and downward south street to Rambouillet block.

Local Parents Attend Conference Amid School News

Miss Stones and Mrs Ingon host after school parent teacher conferences. Mrs Dora Wade and Mrs Osborne visited relatives in town from Idaho City. Mr and Mrs LB Robinson welcomed guests last week. A baby boy born at Iron Co Hospital required a rare blood transfusion, first of its kind in the area, with the infant now improving. The Duntons are home from the hospital with the baby rest at Salt Lake City before full recovery.

Parowan High student wins Armistice Day oratorical contest

Gaytha Lamoreaux, 17, daughter of Mr and Mrs Joe Lamoreaux of Parowan, won the Armistice Day oratorical contest sponsored by American Legion Post No 20. Her speech on The Supreme Sacrifice impressed judges. U S District Attorney Scott M Matheson delivered the main address.

Mrs Cecelia Page Dies After Ogden Hospital Stay

Mrs Cecelia E B Page a 50 year old Parowan native died at Dee Memorial Hospital Ogden after a fall at her daughter’s home caused injuries. She moved to Ogden two years ago with her daughter Mrs Neta Winner and son in law Wares Winner. Survived by two sons James Alma and Albert Benson of Parowan a daughter Mrs Co W Wimmer of Ogden and two sisters Mrs Sadie Zabriskle and Mrs C W Chipman East Lake City plus 13 grandchildren 20 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Funeral services planned.

Orland Ward Combines Business With Vacation

Orland Ward, a Wyoming educator and director of men’s intramural sports at the University of Wyoming, managed the Jenny Lake ranch near Jackson Hole for two summers. The Jenny Lake lodge and 30 deluxe cabins hosted guests at $12.50 daily for meals, with about 60 visitors in 1949, up from 50 the previous year, as Ward balanced duties and leisure at the Rockefeller Foundation property. Literary Club Discusses The House of Seven Gables

Mrs Venice Decker reviewed The House of Seven Gables by Nathaniel Hawthorne at a Wednesday night Literary Club meeting hosted by Mrs Ethel Bayles. Iona P Topham presided with fourteen members and guest Mrs Jeanette Bayles in attendance. Members approved a club project to assist the Legion Auxiliary by placing a new bronze plaque on the War Memorial in the public square. Refreshments were served by the hostess.

East Ward Gleaner Girls and M Men plan a Sunday fireside at 8 o clock at Amy Lou Adams home. Gaylord Whitney will deliver the lesson. All youths aged 17 to 25 are invited to attend.

Jean Heap Becomes Mrs Martin Merrill

Miss Jean Heap daughter of Mrs B Heap of Parowan and the late Mr Heap and Martin B Merrill son of Mr and Mrs Douglas Merrill of Verdun New Mexico announced their marriage in Mioche Nevada on November 11. The bride graduated Parowan High School and has worked in Cedar City. The groom, a Verdun high school graduate, has resided in Codar City and Enoch over the past year. They live in Cedar City where Merrill is employed and plan a Parowan reception soon.

Parowan Gleaners held Golden Gleaner Comradaries in East and West Wards on Tuesday evening. East Ward leader Mrs. Betty Sorenson hosted Miss Luetta Sampson with golden punch and cake as decor featured golden flowers and yellow tapers. West Ward leader Ida King welcomed Miss Carma Hall of Hurricane who discussed the value of the work and displayed her Golden Gleaner awards.

Parowan Chamber Elects New Officers for Year

The Parowan Chamber of Commerce held its annual election at Taylor's Cafe on Wednesday. W M Norman was named president with J C Rummiler as vice president and Albert M Maraden as secretary treasurer. Iron County Cities Move to Cut Fire Hazard

Delegations from Parowan and Cedar City met Iron County Commissioners to discuss measures for reducing fire risk and lowering insurance rates. Packie Board of Fire Underwriters official Arthur Rows outlined needed fire protection equipment. hydrant inspections prompted installation recommendations. A county district plan was proposed dividing Parowan and Cedar City as district one, nearby areas as district two, and the rest as district three. A special meeting to decide cost sharing and participation was proposed with a tentative county budget reviewed for December consideration.
