Special Deer Permits Disposed Of In One Day

About 200 special deer hunting permits sold in a single morning at the Court, far exceeding last year’s totals. Most permits went to California and Utah residents, with Beaver and Washington county residents also buyers. State officials plan deputy game wardens and posted lands to curb trespass as locals push limits to protect the deer herd.

Connell Marries St George Lady in Temple Ceremony

James N Connell of this city wed Mrs An ne M Webb of St George in a St George temple ceremony officiated by President Harold S Snow. The couple, at a Nov 10 ceremony, hosted a reception at the bride’s home with relatives from Las Vegas MilAford Parowan Cedar City and Pendleton US Navy. A group of eighteen neighbors later surprised the couple with a pot luck lunch and gifts as they begin life in St George.

Golden Wedding for Mr and Mrs Stevens in November

Mr and Mrs Joseph Stevens of this city celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary with an Open House on Sunday November 25 from 2 to 6 pm and a dance on Monday night November 26 in the Recreation hall. They were married November 26 1895 in St George temple. They have nine children eight living, twenty one grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Frozen locker plant rises at Southern Utah Dairy

Walls and roof are nearly complete for the new frozen locker plant to be installed by the Southern Utah Dairy Company. The building will house lockers and a quick freeze room with partition walls going in. Sixty to ninety day completion is not yet certain due to equipment delays.

Celery Coop Officials Plan Next Year’s Planting

Utah Celery Cooperative leaders discuss plans for planting vegetables including potatoes carrots celery cabbage cauliflower and peas for next year in Iron County. An assessment of seed and fertilizer needs will be reported at the Cedar City meeting November 26. Potatoes and carrots from Iron County earned praise for quality and packaging this season.

Army Air Transport honors page carries three promotions

Staff Sergeant Earl W. Orton of Parowan and Staff Sergeant Homer R. Whitney of Santa Maria Azores receive promotions in the Air Transport Command. Lt. Paul W. Warby earns an Air Medal for meritorious aerial operations. Warby’s award was announced at Kahuku Army Air Base after missions with the 30th Bombardment Group.

Men Returned From Service During Week

Master Sergeant Hillman Adams is home visiting his mother after serving with the Army Air Corps in the India Burma theater. He has been in the regular army since 1935 and will re enlist after a 90 day leave, likely reporting to Lowry Field near Denver. Pvt Reid Orton, son of Mr and Mrs Clark Orton, arrived home from a Texas army camp after a lengthy hospital stay and recuperation.

Navy Discharges Bring Rowley and Pendleton Home

Ronald F. Rowley seaman first class and Kent Pendleton SM 2nd class were honorably discharged from the Navy at Shoemaker California. Rowley has lived in Panguiteh with Pearl W. Rowley and served since last spring. Pendleton, after several years in the Pacific, spent a month at home and was stationed at Norfolk Virginia after furlough.

Local Soldier Homes In Minersville And Cedar City

Ellis Carter, son of Mr and Mrs Horace Carter of Minersville, and husband of Carol Decker Carter, has returned home after four years in the Army, with a recent West Indies posting. He and Mrs. Carter are staying in Cedar City where he works. Dee M Bettridge, son of Mr and Mrs Webster Bettridge, discharged after three years in the Army Air Corps, arrived home yesterday. He helped maintain heavy bombers and was working on B-29s before the war’s end.

The Parowan West ward completes its auxiliary reorganization with Edna S. Hatch as Relief Society president and Arvilla Halterman as Primary president. Maggie Page, Mettie D. Robinson serve as councillors in Relief Society, Getta Orton and Dixie Mortensen as Primary councillors, Eva Guyman as secretary and treasurer. Ralph Hulet joins YMMIA as second assistant. Bishop Jess W Guyman announces wards cannery will be open for ward members to can meat for home use on Friday afternoon November 30. Navy veteran Arden Richards receives discharge after three years

Arden Richards of this city, son of David H. Richards, has been discharged after over three years of service in the US Navy aboard various craft. He was home in August for his first furlough in months and previously participated in campaigns that landed forces on the Philippines, Okinawa, and other Pacific islands.

Marine veteran Murray Rawson to settle in Utah Idaho

Murray Rawson was released from the US Marine Corps last week and took his wife back to northern Utah or southern Idaho to establish a home. He served in several of the last island battles of the Pacific war with active duty noted.

Exchange Club Hears Committee Reports At Park Land Talks

The Puro Wan Exchange Club discussed land needed for a new road around Breaks and possible parks service transfer. E Ray Lyman said land owners seek grazing land trades or sale at 25 dollars per acre, with one asking 50 dollars. condemnation may occur if a deal cannot be struck. A deal with Watson Adams for adjacent land was discussed, and CCC buildings tenure for Parwan City was considered. The next meeting is set for December 3 at Taylor's Cafe with an entertainment committee named.

Mrs Arthur Joseph chairing this year’s drive announces seals are available at the post office and by canvass next week by 7th to 9th grade girls from Parowan school.
