An unusually high turnout marked the Parowan State Quarterly Conference last Sunday. Nearly all required at the Priesthood Leadership session were present, with attendance at general sessions strong. President W Clair Rowley noted record turnout at the later elders meeting and extensive participation by local leaders.

Nine Pound Nine Ounce Boy Born At Iron County Hospital
A husky nine pound five ounce boy arrived at Iron County Hospital Saturday November 13 to Gerald and Marian Wood Hyatt of Cedar City. He is the first child for the couple and first grandchild for Roy and Maude Orton Hyatt and Mr and Mrs Willard Wood of Cedar City. He is great grandchild number one for Ernest and Mrs Orton of Parowan and George and Mrs Cedar City, and number 97 for Mrs Lacy Hyatt of this city.

Elroy D Laws head of Parowan High School business department returns to teaching after years in contracting and retail sales in Utah. Born in Blanding San Juan County and raised in Provo he holds a business administration degree from Brigham Young University and has post graduate study at Oregon and Ohio. He served as a First Lieutenant in the Marine Corps during World War II with overseas duty in the Pacific. He married Eva Richardson May 21 1941 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and they have four children. The Laws reside in the George Mickelson home area and attend the Second Ward where he teaches in the Sunday School.

Former Parowan resident Mrs Violet Matheson Stevens returns to Cedar City for a song recital at the Third Ward Chapel on November 26 at 8 p.m. The wife of Ervin Stevens a Cedar City native, she has recently given recitals in Salt Lake Layton and Provo and will also perform in Cedar City on November 28 at 7 p.m. The Stevens now run the Whitehall Hotel in Salt Lake City and plan to spend Thanksgiving with family in Cedar City.
