On Tuesday, Dee hundred twenty-nine votes were cast to elect a new town president in Paragonah. Samuel Abbott was elected mayor with board members William 3. Boardman, Frank Dunston, Earl LaFever, and Richard McBride.
Joseph Oscar Decker a retired livestock man and farmer died at his Parowan home Friday after a long illness. Born October 17 1866 in Parowan he was a son of Zachariah and Mancy Decker original Parowan Valley pioneers. He married Annie Jensen February 2 1891 and they raised 11 children. Funeral services were held in Parowan Ward Chapel with Bishop Jesse Guymon presiding and many relatives in attendance.
Funeral services for Dell M. Clark who died of a heart attack in Long Reach California October 27 were held Saturday in Parowan East Ward LDS Chapel. Speakers praised his independence trustworthiness ambition and loved by those around him. The service included songs Stardust Abide With Me and I Love You Truly with pallbearers named. Out-of-town attendees came from Las Vegas Cedar City Salt Lake City Scotia and Grand Junction. Also noted is the 60th wedding anniversary of William and Sarah Thornton with open house November 16 from 2 to 7 pm for church members and friends.
Hugh Edward Matheson 77 died at Iron County Hospital at 11 30 P M Monday after months of illness. Born Parowan August 1870 he lived here most of life and later Cedar City with his children. A brick maker and expert bricklayer he helped construct public buildings and works in Southern Utah including park lodges. Survived by two children Edward G Matheson Cedar City and Alice M Stucks Parowan five grandchildren two great grandchildren and four brothers Dan and Owen E Matheson Cedar Continued on Page Four.
Ward Conference of the Parowan West Ward will be held Sunday with attendance expected from stake presidency and all auxiliary meetings including priesthood, Sunday School, and Sacrament. East Ward Relief Society plans a 2 p.m. conference, with post conference meetings for officers and the Stake Board, and a social hour to honor retiring leaders including Mrs. Mabel Adams Warren for 45 years as a block teacher.
Bishop Jesee Guymon of the East Ward calls choir members to meet at the Church for practice after Sunday meeting around 3 p.m. Children baptized on Monday should attend Sunday for Confirmation. Babies christened in Parowan last Sunday include Harvey Adams' daughter Shirley Rae and the son of Mr Costinued on page five.
Ray Lyman is reelected mayor as Parowan High School hosts a morning band performance at 10 30. A patriotic meeting follows at 11 with a high school speaking contest and American Legion Medal prize. Afternoon Turkey Shooting at 2 and an American Legion Auxiliary banquet at 7 30, then a dance with Music Makers until 1 A M.
The Legion Auxiliary outlines plans for the Armistice Day banquet at 7 30 p m on November 1 8, with committees named for banquet, program, invitations and table arrangements. Membership reminders, dues, and a request to bring personal dining ware accompany notice of a 50 cent plate charge. Mrs Pearl Russell long in retail at Mariam's Style Shop expresses willingness to meet friends. Victory Chorus schedules Monday 4 00 p m meeting in Mr Manning's music room to elect new officers with Mrs Manning as director. Adrien Dalton travels from Logan with wife and baby to stay this winter while he attends USAC. Arch Benson Ethel Bayles and Alice Bayles visit Salt Lake City to see Ralph Bayles at the University of Utah. Violet Clark leaves for Salt Lake City to visit her son and daughter in law Sheldon Clark. Fred and Robert Smiths move to Barstow California for the winter. Druella Chamberlain of Cedar City visits Parowan at her parents home. Ted Werner and three children visit from Las Vegas. most stay until Wednesday. Bob Mickelson in Veterans Hospital Salt Lake City awaiting hernia operation. Warren Pendleton leaves to Provo Salt Lake City before entering LDS California mission home for six months. Venill Orton and two daughters visit Parowan from Las Vegas. Elburn and family also in town. Mrs Orton in poor health.
Howard Dan Moore son of Mr and Mrs LeRoy Moore long-time Parowan residents now of Salt Lake City has been called by the First Presidency of the L D S Church to serve a mission in the Eastern States. A former Parowan High pupil and World War II navy veteran he will enter the mission home Nov 10 and depart Nov 19. A Farewell Testimonial for the departing missionary will be held at the Waterloo Ward Chapel Nov 9 at 5 30 p m with remarks by Harley W Dalton of Parowan. Mr and Mrs Dalton will attend from Salt Lake City later in the week.
Five BAC student body officers and a faculty member escaped serious harm when a station wagon returning from a Grand Junction convention skidded on Highway 91 between Parowan and Cedar. Miss Glory Spendlove suffered a broken collar bone, June Decker and Marian Stewart plus others treated for bruises and shock. all rested at Iron County Hospital.
Mrs. Jos. O. Decker thanks friends and neighbors for support during illness and after her husband and father's death. Grateful for flowers food funeral assistance and visits.
