Adults from Ward Mutual Improvement Associations plan a Tuesday evening event at the Recreation hall. Tickets cost 20 cents and may be paid in produce including wheat barley oats and other farm goods. Proceeds fund the orchestra with extra goods donated to the Bishop for Thanksgiving parcels.
Misa Clara Heatley hosted a Hallowe'en Hokum event at her home with a Five Hundred game set to a Halloween motif. Rules included face down bidding and passing a hand to the right as well as scoring plays. Myra Dalton won high score for ladies and Emerson Adams for men while guests enjoyed candy filled favors and refreshments.
Marian Adama Gudmundsen 55 a Parowan native and noted Utah woman died in Los Angeles after a lingering illness. She taught at Salt Lake City colleges and Normal School Albion Idaho and Parowan High. Survived by husband Ray and three children Shirley Rel Mark Vance, sisters and brothers. Funeral held in Los Angeles.
Frank Lister from the hills suffered a deep gash on the top of his left foot after an axe pierced his shoe. Blood was controlled by tying a shoe string around the ankle to stem the loss. Several stitches were needed to close the wound.
In Paragonah the town election on November 3 produced a mixed ticket for the Town Board. Harvey E Dunton, Republican, won the presidency. other winners include Thomas Robinson and Orson Talbot, both listed as Republicans, with several Cititzens nominees. Lot drawing will determine who holds office among top vote receivers.
Milas Kate Taylor, a county record er, was brought home from the hospital the first of the week and is well on the road to recovery following her recent operation.
The Farent-Teachers Association will hold a social next Thursday evening November 12 at the school house. A short program follows with selections by the school band and a brief talk by John H. Pendleton of the Mechanic Arts department on Using Materials of Shop during hard times.
Dr. G. I. Hyatt sues J. A. Paramore for collection of a note issued two years ago to Frank Paramore and assigned to Hyatt. The action was filed during the week in the local court.
Parowan City voters backed a mixed ticket in the mayoral race with Ivan Decker defeating John Rasmussen. L. J. Adams won a short term council seat, I. L. Fenton the long term, I. A. Matheson and W. Leonard Evans won the other two short terms, while Richard M. Benson and Ellen D. Taylor were re elected Recorder and Treasurer on the Republican ticket. About 470 ballots were cast.
Iron County launches its $20 000 road relief program with crews to begin on Cedar New Castle road by Monday. District road engineer William Osbourne and D Claude Urie surveyed gravel sites and plan weekly crew rotations, while locals register for work through Cedar City Chamber of Commerce secretary E H Burgess and Parowan Bishop Mitchell or County Clerk Rowley. The Taragonan Buckhorn project will receive 315 000 for grading gravel and preparatory oiling in spring.
Dairy cattle in this vicinity will undergo tuberculosis testing on Monday near Nov 98 according to George Rasmussen president of the local livestock association. Dr A G C Johnson deputy state veterinarian and Dr C C Parry from the Federal department will conduct the tests at designated sites. Cows in town to be tested at the Tithing yard corral between 10 30 a m and 12 a m while cattle on the bottoms and in the Lane will be tested at 2 p m with the assembly point for each group to be announced. There is no charge for the tests. The notice also mentions Navy recruiting officer W S McGovern and his wife visiting briefly and then reassigned within the U S Navy with plans for a West Coast cruise and later a trip to the Far East.
Plans mature for National Wool Week from November 7 to 14 with coast to coast programs by growers manufacturers wholesalers and retailers. Fashion shifts toward wool as demand grows for new garments and home uses while style shows radio broadcasts and ads boost coverage across the United States. The New York kickoff at the Waldorf Astoria features Arthur Slyde and James C. Stone with a broadcast banquet.
Harold Rowley of Parowan married last Saturday in Caliente Nevada to Misa Evelyn Seecs a popular local woman The groom is son of Mr and Mrs Thomas Rowley The event prompted well wishes from Times readers Also noted Mrs J L Lowder was rushed to Cedar City for medical care due to heart issues
Democrats won a decisive Cedar City election securing control for two years. Only one council member, Mrs Dewey Thorley, a first time female city councilor, joined the Republican slate amid strong ticket prospects. The current Democratic majority remains, aided by the recorder and treasurer, Elias M. Corry, a Democrat.
The T. A. T. club met yesterday and planned a party for members and their husbands tonight. It will be a candy pull at Bris. Hilda Evana’s home. Mrs. Varizal Iisherman hosted and provided refreshments.
The Literary Club and partners enjoyed a Halloween party at Mrs. Fae Benson's home last Saturday night. Guests wore fig leaves on caps and the evening featured card games with refreshments served later. Special guests included Mr. Donald Cruikshank of Boise and Miss Maxine Froyd.
Two marriage licenses were issued by the clerk's office during the week. Byron Richard Perkins 23 Las Bas and Chetta Mable Bluettt 21 Las Vegas along with Edgar Cram Chamberlain 21 Summit and Norine Jones 19 Enoch are named as couples.
The American Legion meets to outline Armistice Day events in Parowan including a public meeting at 11 4 a m a town boxing card a children’s dance a 3 p m game with the Legion and a dance to close the day The Legion Auxiliary assists and a turkey shoot may be held Dr Durham Morris will speak and the high school oratorical contest offers a $6 prize popcorn balls and a quilt raffle are planned
Beaver's Inter-community Chautauqua program for November 18 to 21 includes a three act farce Jane set in a modern city room with a newly married couple hiding their marriage and a substituted wife. Cast lists follow for Charley Shackleton Orris Murdock and others. Cedar will present Four Uncles Dudley, a three act comedy directed by Will L. Adams with a listed cast. St. George's number is expected to be announced soon.
Last Friday the Freshmen presented an assembly program featuring nine girls readings by Miss Hibbert a violin and clarinet duet by Miss Adrienne Mickelson and Miss Alberta Mickelson a piano solo by Beth Lyman and recitation by WIT L. Adams among others.
