The 10th grade and faculty at the elementary school stage a commencement program in Ward Chapel. Valedictorian Miss Gertrude Adams looks to future prospects as speakers greet graduates. A ceremony with music, speeches, diplomas, and a subsequent high school gym dance follows.
The West Ward Primary is moved to Wednesday next week due to a holiday, with new leaders and promotions planned. East Ward has no Primary. summer sessions will continue in both wards with regular activities for boys and girls. West Ward Relief Society fair set for Tuesday June 6 features crafts, sewing, and musical performances.
The Home Economics Department sponsors a May 15 fashion show for mothers and guests. Students modeled spring outfits from Miriam's Style Shop, with dresses by Virginia Orton and Joyce Mathesin, and accessories by May O. The event featured a Wardley reception and punch, with cocoa on the back page.
A large crowd gathered Friday for the funeral of Horace Evans, a farmer. Attendees included out of town relatives from Beaver and Las Vegas. The service featured performances by Silas Topham and Cherri Davold Ver, with remarks by Amenan Tophwn and floral tributes from numerous associations and family members. The attending physician noted Evans passed after a two week illness.
In California a wave of bank concerns spreads as Rivergate bankers face scrutiny in a broad inquiry. The report notes prominent figures and local ties, including ties to Norbert Collins and the Mission dinar, with references to a notable event in June.
The West Ward Primary will hold graduation exercises Sunday afternoon during the Sacrament meeting. Principal Arvilta Be. Mortensen announces certificates will be awarded to boys and girls. Mrs Edgar Benson hosted relatives for the birth of her husband Edward Dalton with visitors Lizale Dalton Meeks of Cowley Wyoming and Wardell siblings from Salt Lake City. A Dalton family reunion tentatively planned for August 29 1980 at Purview, with Harley W Dalton and others named as organizers.
Iron County Democratic contenders line up for county posts with Heatherton, Mortensen, and Arnold among hopefuls. Key races include sheriff and clerk positions as party members campaign across towns and seek votes in upcoming primary.
Funeral services for Amil With were held in Moonta’s tenon Tie the Weep Ward Chapel by Jorn. Survivors include a mixed quartet and several speakers such as HH. LeRoy Ad nim, Jonegh and Joseph FE Ward. Music featured Mrs. Rula Bb Cartow singing Beyond the Susser. Closing songs and prayers marked the service with burial at Piarowan City Cemetery.
Miss Tray Adams earns the 26 American Legion Americanism prize for the best essay by four high school students. Presentation made by Mrs Alma Adams with Mrs Barbara Adams and Mrs Fac N. Besson presiding. Adams’s essay "Lovenity" sent to Salt Lake City to compete with state winners from other towns.
City officials remind residents within city limits that permits are required before any building, remodeling, or moving projects. The recent ordinance mandates precautions for erecting new structures or remodeling interiors and exteriors, with permits possibly contracted through the building inspector and fees paid to the City Treasurer.
At Panevan High School seniors to sophomores and staff received Honor Certificates. Clair Morris presented the certificates with student officers and editors named among the awardees. Class presidents and lists of seniors juniors sophomores and freshmen are noted with staff and editors also listed.
Mrs Joly Dolkinski returns to Parowan after weeks in San take City family visits note her health improving after major operation. Al Redd Rich of Brig ham City visits Parowan with Mrs Luella Adams. The first graduating class and alumni attended Cedar City B A C exercises and banquet last week. Mrs Adams hosted family gathering Saturday evening with Ray Adams Ancel Adams and Harley Dalton families. Mr and Mrs Wm A Thorson host sisters in law Grover Oru Payson and Vernion Beaver. Scott Orton in Salt Lake City for surface burn repairs after accident a year ago. Mack Thornton and family from Salt Lake City visited Mack’s niece and grandparents Wm C Thornton this week. Lieut and Mrs Donald A Dalton and children, stationed with Army Air Corps in Savannah GA, visited Hurley W Hilton family for two weeks. Continued on Back Page.
N Merton Mitchell longtime president of the Paro Wan Alumni Association was reelected at the annual election held last Friday. Elected with him for the coming year were Aleen Orton Alberta Evans Boyd Mitchell Eugene Orton Gary Bentley and Kent Mitchell as officers and board members. The week featured the induction of LOM graduates into the organization an outstanding assembly program the banquet and ceremonies led by Claude Ailama with Richard Melvin Rowley as master of ceremonies. About 250 guests attended the banquet filling the school hall for one of the largest alumni gatherings to date.
Impressive funeral services were held last Saturday for John P. Orton retired stock man and lumberman of Parowan Ward L D S Ward. West Ward Bishopric conducted services at 2 pm in the Ward Chapel with musical numbers by Ray Lyman Ivan Decker Berta Burton Cherie Day and the choir. Speakers included Stake President W Clair Rowley Jos E B Ward and George Alexander with Mrs Florence D Benson reading sentiments. Additional numbers included In the Garden Nearer My God to Thee and Lead Me Gently Home. George Stevens gave the benediction at the cemetery where the grave was dedicated by William R Stevens. A Tuesday afternoon thunder shower struck the Frank Dunton home, likely via an external electric line, tearing off a siding bird, blasting a big plaster wall hole, exploding a lamp, and damaging a radio. The infant daughter was inside. others were in the yard.
Fulmer Brothers Gonutret in company of Springville received the contract for the new Weilrie electric plant at a special meeting of the Parowan City Council on Tuesday. The work includes laying 2001 feet of bS-luch pipe and associated appurtenances, with completion expected in 45 days and the plant in operation by October depending on equipment delivery. bids for the power house construction will be sought once engine room specs are ready.
Stake Bee-Hive Girls from Showptire Parowan Stake will observe Swarm Week with a Friday afternoon recreation camp featuring games and a meal. Sunday evening at East Ward Chapel a program includes graduation of Bee-Hive workers and awards, with about fifty girls expected to receive certificates.
Mr and Mrs Terry Lund were honored at an open house by Mr and Mrs Harvey Breinholl and Mr and Mrs Logg Lund on Saturday May 20 at their Para fonah home. Friends from Cedic CHLY attended the event marking their 25 years of marriage.
Kerry Robinson age five, son of Viol Raublinson, was seriously injured at a Five All Admin picnic when a heavy swing struck his head. He was rushed to Cedar City for stitches and is reportedly recovering.
