County Board Approves Post War Road Program
The County Board of Commissioners finalized a post war road program after changes at the May meeting. Parowan Canyon dropped to fourth place. Cedar-Land Highway moved to second. U Ag Enterprise third. Parowan remained in the program with other roads shifted accordingly. The board also addressed weed eradication, funding for an old folks home site, and a small water pipeline right of way for Newcastle.

The statewide contest, sponsored by the Salt Lake Tribune Telegram, requires 26 votes or $5,005 in War bonds. Parowan Poppy Day Set for May 26 by American Legion Auxiliary
Parowan Unit of the American Legion Auxiliary announces Poppy Day on Saturday May 26 to honor dead soldiers from both World Wars and support living veterans and their families. Crepe flowers, crafted by disabled Utah veterans, will be sold on city streets with proceeds aiding veterans and child welfare in Parowan. A meeting of the Auxiliary is set for Monday May 21 at 3:30 AM at Mrs Olive Mitchells to finalize preparations and distribution of about 1060 poppies.

Memorial Rites Held For Sgt Moore On Sunday
Memorial services for Sergeant Jack W. Moore killed in action on March 27 in Southern Germany were held at 4 PM Sunday in the East ward chapel. Bishop Jess Guyman led the rites with speakers Shelby M. Bentley, Will L. Adams, and closing remarks by Guymon. The service included a flag presentation to Mrs. Moore and musical selections by local choirs and a girl trio. Also reported are notices of Mrs. Mary A. Munford's death in Beaver and Navy trainee Robert M. Miller returning from San Diego for brief home leave before further assignments.

Mrs Elmo Lowder of Fillmore mourns as her brother Boyd Skinner is reported killed in action on Iwo Jima. Skinner served in the Marine Corps for about four to five years, entering service at age 17, and was from Pinedale Wyoming. Mrs William J Lowder and daughter Maxine joined relatives in Fillmore as the family learned of the casualty.
